We may not realize it, but our dogs are very good at detecting things that we ourselves are not always capable of.
I’d say we don’t give them enough credit for their senses, but it’s true. I knew my dog could sniff out danger from miles away, and it was something only he noticed.
It’s just one of the many perks of having a dog. However, they aren’t just capable of sensing danger, but also other things as well.
This woman from Tennessee noticed that her dog started acting strange around her, only for her to realize that the dog was actually trying to say something to her mom.
It’s A What?!
When Riley Gaines Barker first noticed her dog’s suspicious behavior, she didn’t know what to make of it. How could she? Maybe it was just a one-time thing.
However, as time went on, it continued. She was really protective of her mom and would constantly sleep with her mom in the same bed.
Barker noted that the only time she was ever like this was when she had puppies of her own, and her protective instinct kicked in full time.
As one would expect, she was a great mom who always took care of her puppies and worked 24/7 to raise them.
So, in order to check out what was wrong with her, Barker decided to call a veterinary clinic in California, and the vet just kind of brushed it off.
They asked Barker if she had taken a pregnancy test recently. And what do you know, she was actually pregnant. Her dog actually sensed it somehow.
The Best News Ever
This was absolutely incredible news for Barker and her husband. How is this possible? I don’t know, but it shows just how sensitive dogs are to things we can’t perceive.
Time went on, and during her entire pregnancy, Barker’s dog was there for her. She was her vigilant guardian and was on full-time duty to protect mom.
Barker noted that she would also ‘safeguard’ her from the other two male dogs in the home, even though they were always well-behaved.
The dog and her mom like to spend a lot of time just napping and snuggling. It became one of their favorite activities.
When people asked Barker who was the first to find out that she was pregnant, she told them it was actually her dog.
I assumed it was difficult for a lot of people to believe, but that’s just the truth. That baby is going to have the best parents ever and the three most amazing dogs who will always protect her.
As we already said before, it’s truly fascinating just how great dogs are at perceiving certain things, and this short story is just another example of it.
