Hearing chilling cries in the middle of the night is unnerving. But for one determined woman with a compassionate heart, backing down wasn’t an option.
Kaitlyn, a rescuer with Adams County Pet Rescue in Othello, Washington, sprang into action the moment she heard the sounds.
She knew right away the cries weren’t human, but she couldn’t tell where they were coming from. That is, until she glanced beneath her own car.
A Frightening Sight Beneath The Vehicle
It was close to 11 p.m. when Kaitlyn returned home and let her dogs outside for a quick bathroom break. Suddenly, loud, desperate cries came from under her vehicle.
She crouched down, trying to see and froze. From the darkness, two wide, fearful eyes stared straight at her.
A terrified puppy was wedged beneath her car, trembling and trying not to be noticed.
But the situation wasn’t going to be easy.
What seemed like it might be a simple rescue turned into a frantic chase. The moment Kaitlyn reached out, the frightened pup bolted.
“The pup headed out from under the car with Kaitlyn running right behind it. She needed to make quick decisions so it didn’t head out into the night and not be found,” the rescue shared.
Fortunately, instead of disappearing into the nearby fields, the pup circled within Kaitlyn’s yard. Though scared, she seemed to sense it was safer there.
Barefoot and determined after losing her sandals mid-chase, Kaitlyn called for backup. With help from a few caring neighbors, they managed to gently corner the frightened dog.
That’s when the rescue team arrived.
“When Kaitlyn calls at 11 p.m. at night, I always know it’s something interesting happening and I better answer. When she’s breathless, I know it’s going to be some real exciting and of course, it was,” the Washington-based rescue posted on Facebook.
With the pup finally safe, she was taken to the shelter to rest and recover.
Primavera’s Journey Toward A New Life
Though initially timid and guarded, the puppy, later named Primavera, slowly began to trust.
With the care of the ACPR team, she was placed into a foster home where her true personality started to shine.
Under the gentle guidance of her foster mom, Tammy, Primavera discovered what it meant to be safe, cherished, and carefree.
One of her sweetest discoveries was how much she loved riding around in her little puppy buggy.
Tammy’s patience and devotion transformed Primavera into a completely different dog. No longer withdrawn, she became playful and affectionate, always eager for attention.
“She loves chasing balls, chew toys, carrying her stuffies around and hanging out in the backyard. She’s very social now and wants to be where the people are,” the ACPR team shared on Facebook.
Though still adapting, Primavera is well on her way to being the perfect family companion.
When the right moment arrives, she will be ready to join her forever home, where she will be loved endlessly and allowed to flourish.
After everything she endured, she has earned nothing less.
