Discovering Trust With The Right Foster Family
Gracie cycled through a couple of foster homes before finding one that truly understood her fragile state.
Her new foster family gave her the chance to unwind. They believed that with enough patience, trust could be built.
Because Gracie had never known affection, she tried to shrink herself down, pressing into the smallest spaces to avoid being seen.
Bit by bit, her fosters sat near her and offered kindness without pressure. Slowly, Gracie realized their intentions were good, and she began to trust.
Her foster parents celebrated as they watched her improve.
“She now whines when she has to go potty or when she wants to go out and watch the other dogs playing… Her posture is no longer of that scared dog 24×7, she is now relaxed and seems content,” Labor of Love Transport Rescue wrote in a Facebook post.

Gracie enjoyed observing other dogs run and play, though she still was not ready to join them. What mattered most was that she no longer recoiled from people.
For the first time, she leaned into gentle touches. Her foster family felt overwhelming joy when she allowed herself to be stroked.
Both her fosters and the rescue team believed she was on a path of healing and prayed she would eventually embrace life fully.
In time, Gracie began acting more like a regular dog. She discovered the joy of long hikes with her foster family. She wagged her tail freely and beamed with happiness as she took in the scenery.
