The rule is: when you get the chance to adopt a Labrador Retriever, you take it.
I mean, who wouldn’t?
Not only are they on top of the list of the most desirable dog breeds in the U.S., but Labs are truly the heart and soul of the dog world. They’re playful, great companions, intuitive, fast learners, and, when needed, can be quite the protectors!
Emily Bishop Green, a woman from Washington, knew this all too well. So, when her chance to adopt Rudy, a black Labrador Retriever mix, came, she didn’t think twice.
Rudy and Emily clicked right off the bat, and within days, this strikingly adorable Lab mix pup was in his new home, adjusting to a new life.
The only “problem” Emily didn’t know about at the time was: Rudy was only 2% Labrador!
Labrador Retriever Or Labrador Deceiver?

Imagine the shock upon discovering that your “almost purebred” dog isn’t what you expected him to be — at all!
Well, that’s exactly how Emily felt once Rudy’s DNA test results came in. She received them while at work, and couldn’t share them fast enough with her husband (and the rest of the community).
In a viral Reddit post, Emily shared Rudy’s DNA, and it was a shocker! He almost didn’t have a speck of the Labrador’s DNA in him.

Instead, Rudy was mostly an American Pit Bull Terrier and Rottweiler mix. He also had American Staffordshire Terrier, Boxer, Plott Hound and Bloodhound ancestry in him, along with only two percent of Labrador Retriever’s DNA.
“Are these believable? He is about 11.5 weeks old and we got him from a shelter, so of course nobody could have known,” Emily wrote in the post.

Before long, Emily’s post became viral, and the comments started pouring in.
“No, he’s 2% lab, and 98% Labrador deceiver,” one person joked.
“Ok, not sure if I speak for everyone here but, we gonna NEED some updates, mkay,” another added.
One person shared their own similar experience with a “Lab mix”: “I think we kinda have the same dog. Most people will mistakenly think he’s a labrador but he’s a mixed of pitbull, Staffordshire, french bulldog, and many others lol.”
He’s Still One Hundred Percent Perfect

While Rudy’s origin is the total opposite of what his family initially thought, the truth is: Rudy is still the pawesomest boi!
According to his mom, Rudy is super funny, quirky and has so much energy…sometimes even too much energy!

So far, he’s made an incredible adjustment to his new environment and people. However, Rudy is still learning how to behave around dogs, especially the little ones who “scare him,” according to Emily’s Reddit.
Rudy is crate trained, he’s learning new tricks fast, and is on the way to becoming the ultimate companion.
Even though he’s only a two-percent Lab, adopting Rudy was the best decision his Washington family could have made. And they don’t regret it one bit!
