They say not every family is ready for a dog, but every dog deserves a family to call their own.
Opal’s story began when she was spotted as a dumped pup wandering along a rural road. This striking white Husky had been left behind, abandoned to survive in the middle of nowhere with no one to care for her.
It seemed like her fate was sealed, until one woman crossed her path and decided to change everything.
Opal Was Rescued From A Busy Country Road

Diane Ewert, the founder of F_a_r_t (Foster, Adopt, Rescue, Transport) in Kingsburg, California, noticed a large white dog while driving down a rural road. Her instincts as a rescuer immediately took over.
She turned the car around, pulled over, and decided to give saving this pup her best shot.

It wasn’t quick or easy. Diane spent ninety minutes trying to slip a leash on Opal, taking things slowly so as not to frighten her. With plenty of patience, she gave the scared Husky space to adjust.
After another forty minutes, and with the help of a bag of rotisserie chicken, Opal finally trusted her enough to climb into the car, beginning her journey toward a new life.
733 Days Of Dedicated Foster Care

Diane welcomed Opal into her home as a foster, but she never imagined the Husky would become one of her longest “temporary” residents.
Although Opal adjusted quickly to foster life and bonded with Diane’s dogs, adoption applications simply didn’t come in.
What was supposed to be a short stay turned into more than 700 days of waiting.

“She is a quiet husky, doesn’t follow the typical husky norm with her vocals. Opal is veeeery affectionate. Loves being loved on and snuggling up to her hooman,” says Diane on her official Instagram.
Still, Diane didn’t mind having Opal in her home for as long as she needed, as she wanted to make sure that the family who adopted Opal was the perfect fit for her. After all – Opal was an amazing girl who deserved a loving home!
“Even if I knew the commitment the day I saw you, I would do it again in a heartbeat. I love you, and your momma SO much,” Diane wrote on her Facebook.
Emy Was The Perfect Match
Emy, a woman from Wisconsin, had seen a video of Opal nearly a year earlier and had been cheering for her ever since.
She hoped Opal would one day be loved by a family that understood her. Eventually, Emy decided she was meant to be the one.
After some thinking, she contacted Diane and arranged a meeting in Vegas. It took her a week to drive herself all the way there from Wisconsin, but eventually, she made it to probably one of the most emotional meetings she ever had!
“Seven days, ten states, fourteen tanks of gas – and one dog home forever. I hope I have all the time in the world with her,” Emy said.
From the moment they met, it was clear the connection was instant. Diane, Opal, and Emy clicked like longtime friends, and most importantly, Opal adored her new mom.
Without hesitation, Opal hopped into Emy’s car. The long trip home didn’t matter; the pair looked overjoyed to start their new life together.
A Happy Life In Wisconsin

Today, Opal thrives in Wisconsin, enjoying every moment with Emy’s other dogs and soaking up constant love and attention.
Even though she has a forever family, Emy continues to keep Opal’s community updated online. Diane and Emy also remain close, united by their love for this special Husky.
You can keep up with Opal’s adventures on Emy’s Instagram.

“I know she has had a community surrounding and supporting her for 733 days before becoming my dog. I want to assure you all, I will continue to share her with you. That means the hood and the not so good. She is after all OUR dog. Thank you all for loving her,” wrote Emy.
Once a stray dog left on her own, Opal is now living her best life, adored and secure in her forever home.
