When the local people spotted a mama cat and her babies deep inside the Mississippi woods, they did everything they could to help them.
They fed the mama cat, but as much as they tried, they couldn’t capture the kittens, who were too deep to reach.
News that the cat family needed help reached Avery Hood and Andrea Moore, two wonderful women who help the local stray cats. They immediately jumped to their aid and headed to the woods.
The Distrustful Mama Cat
Despite having the best intentions, the mama cat was suspicious of Hood and Moore and refused to cooperate.
“I jokingly told [the mama] to bring me her babies, but didn’t think she would,” Hood told The Dodo.
Hopeful that they would rescue the cat family soon, Hood went home.
For the next few days, the rescuer kept thinking about the mama and her kittens, not imagining that she would soon receive a heartwarming surprise.
When Hood opened her door on Labor Day, she was shocked to see the mother cat gazing at her.
She greeted the cat and stepped into her car. The moment Hood turned the key, a little black kitten ran from between her two front car tires.
After seeing the kitten, the rescuer became paranoid, so she popped the hood only to find two more babies curled up in her engine.
When Hood took them in her arms, the frightened kittens meowed in protest.
Since the rescuer saw only two kittens, she grew worried that the remaining babies had gotten hurt while crossing the busy road on their way from the woods.
Luckily, shortly afterward, Hood realized that there were four kittens in the engine and a sense of relief washed over her.
Her neighbor found one kitten wandering around.
“We just kept finding them,” Hood added.
The Cat Family Is Safe
The Mississippi rescuer managed to capture the mama and three of her kittens and bring them to her home.
First, Hood set the mama cat up in her bathroom and gave her delicious snacks. She could tell right away that she was worried for her kittens.
Once the rescuer reunited her with her kittens, the mama relaxed.
Hood was determined to bring all the babies to safety, so she set a humane trap with yummy food inside.
Fortunately, her rescue mission succeeded, and the remaining three kittens were caught.
“It took 12 hours and a live trap to catch all 7 cats,” Hood wrote in a post on Reddit.
Hood was amazed at the mama cat’s strength and resilience.
Although she was thin and less than a year old, she cared for her babies and kept them safe. And what’s even more awe-inspiring, the mama cat brought her babies to the rescuer and asked for help.
Ready For The Next Chapter In Their Lives
The cat family spent the next several days relaxing in Hood’s bathtub. They snuggled and played with toys, forgetting about their ordeal.
Hood took the cat family to the vet where they were given a clean bill of health.
Out of the six kittens, who were estimated to be around 9 weeks old, only one had a small injury – a scratch on its forehead.
The kittens continue thriving and revealing more of their personalities.
The mama cat is no longer worried. She trusts her rescuer and soaks up the love she gives her.
Soon, the resilient kittens will head to a shelter and start searching for permanent homes.
