For many dogs, being separated from the people they love is unbearable. But being abandoned without warning, left to wonder what happened, is even worse.
That nightmare became real for Fritter, a senior pup from Southern California. When his owners received an eviction notice, they quickly packed their things and left the house. In the chaos, they also left Fritter behind.
Fritter was left outside the house with no one to care for him. In desperation, the loyal dog made himself a bed out of an old box discarded in the backyard.
Waiting For His Family To Return
For several days, Fritter remained outside, staring at cars driving down the street. He hoped with every sound of an engine that his beloved family might be inside.
Caring neighbors left food and water for him, but that was all they could offer. Fritter wouldn’t let anyone near him. Fear and confusion kept him frozen, and he still expected his family to come back.
When the neighbors learned the house was scheduled for demolition, they contacted Suzette Hall, a local dog rescuer and the volunteer of Logan’s Legacy.
Hall immediately rushed over to help the dog escape such harsh conditions.
“He would wait literally in the street and hope each car would be them coming back. He would go back to his house and sleep in a box in the back yard. Sometimes, neighbors would leave food and water,” says Suzette.
Learning To Trust Again
Suzette set up a humane trap filled with tasty food, hoping to lure the pup. But Fritter stayed put in his cardboard box, wary of the stranger who was calling for him.
In the end, Hall and a friend gently cornered him and placed him into a crate.
On the ride to Camino Pet Hospital in Irvine, California, Fritter shook with fear. But before the vet examined him, he allowed Suzette to hold him close.
That short embrace marked a turning point. For the first time, Fritter seemed to realize she was there to help him, not harm him.
Once he was checked, Hall took him home to recover and slowly adjust. Day by day, he became more relaxed, inching closer to the happy little pup he had been before his abandonment.
Finding His Forever Family
It wasn’t long before Fritter’s story reached the perfect match. A kind woman and her three pups opened their home to him, giving the senior boy the family he desperately needed.
“His frown was turned upside down. So happy for you, sweet boy! Your lonely nights are behind. Your belly will always be full. Nobody will leave you behind again,” Suzette wrote on her Facebook.
Once abandoned and heartbroken, Fritter is now cherished, loved, and living the joyful life he always deserved.
