California Rescuers Tried To Help This Abandoned Pup, But He Still Wanted His Family To Come Back

Out of all regions in the U.S., Orange County, California, might just be one of the most “pet friendly.” Stray animals hold a special place in the hearts of the community, and people there show it every day.

Hardly a day passes without hearing good news about a rescued dog, cat, or other animal in this county.

The same was true when Arturo Flores and Lou Dora, members of a group dedicated to caring for cats, spotted a frightened little head peeking out from behind a pillar.

At first glance, they thought it was a feline. Soon enough, they realized the creature was a dog, but that didn’t stop them from stepping in to help.

Dumped Heartlessly

Because the spot was in an industrial zone, Arturo and Lou couldn’t understand how such a helpless pup had ended up there. That changed when a worker at a nearby tire shop in Irvine, California, revealed the truth.

“The man who worked at [the] tire shop said a car pulled up and dumped her,” Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy Dog Rescue, wrote on Facebook.

The news hit Arturo and Lou hard. Soon after, another heartbreaking detail came to light: the dog hadn’t moved from that one corner since she was abandoned. Then it became clear why.

“The corner she stayed in after being dumped out of a car was probably the only grass in town,” Hall wrote. “[She was] so docile but so scared.”

That tiny patch of grass was the only refuge for her paws against the burning asphalt under the blazing sun.

What pained them most was learning that the dog, sitting so still, kept staring off into the distance. She seemed to be waiting, clinging to hope that her family would return for her.

They never did, but kind people were ready to step in, ease her heartbreak, and offer a new chance at life.

Finally Gave In

Determined but unsure of how best to proceed, Arturo and Lou contacted Logan’s Legacy Dog Rescue (LLDR) for professional help.

When Suzette Hall heard the details, she wasted no time rushing to the scene. Still, despite her best efforts to coax the dog closer, the pup was so terrified she refused to budge.

Hall quickly changed tactics. Recognizing the dog’s hunger, she placed some treats inside a humane trap. The temptation worked.

“This baby was so hungry,”  Hall wrote. “Oh man, did she lick her lips …”

Moments later, the dog was safely inside the crate, then on her way to a brand-new beginning.

New Chance

Hall knew the rescue was only the first step. The road to recovery would be long, but she was determined not to give up on the pup, whom she named Bean.

Bean’s condition showed she had been struggling alone for quite some time. Scabs covered her legs and ears, so Hall brought her straight to Camino Pet Hospital in Irvine, where veterinarians worked carefully to clean her up.

Gradually, Bean’s smile began to return. The greatest turning point came when she entered her foster home, where love and affection surrounded her from the start.

“She loves to cuddle and is so sweet and thankful,” Hall told The Dodo. “And she loves to hug her foster family.”

Though Bean is still in recovery and hasn’t yet found a forever home, Hall is confident that this brave pup is destined for the happiest of endings.

One thing is certain: her paws will only ever touch the greenest grass from now on.
