One compassionate mailman from St. Louis proved just how much of a difference a simple act of kindness can make.
That day, he chose to deliver not only letters but also love and empathy—and his decision ended up saving a precious life.
While driving along his usual route, he suddenly noticed a heartbreaking sight—a frail dog clearly in need of urgent medical care.
Trusting his instincts, the mailman hit the brakes, jumped out of his van, and rushed over to help.
A Beautiful Act Of Kindness
As soon as he approached her, the mailman locked eyes with the sweetest gaze he had ever seen. Despite the painful, swollen lump on her face, the pup wagged her tail and greeted him with warmth.
Her pain was obvious, yet she still managed to remain gentle and cooperative.
It truly was her lucky day—help had finally arrived.
The kind mailman kept her safe in his van until rescuers from Stray Rescue of St. Louis arrived.
Although the shelter has been struggling with overcrowding, making it hard to take in more dogs, they knew this little girl couldn’t wait. She needed urgent medical attention.
Without hesitation, Donna Lochmann, one of the group’s chief rescuers, met the mailman and took the pup into her care. They decided to name her Parcel—a fitting tribute to the hero who found her.
The Beginning Of A New Life
“When we first saw Parcel, we thought she had a large, infected bite wound. But it actually appears to be Sialocele – aka a ruptured salivary duct that will most likely need to be removed via a specialty surgery,” the rescue shared on Instagram.
At the emergency clinic, vets drained the swelling, which gave Parcel some relief. But surgery remained her only real solution.
Because of the ruptured duct, saliva was pooling under her skin, leading to infection. No one knows exactly how the injury happened—it’s possible she was struck by something or had an accident.
“She’s so petite and so sweet. We’re thankful she’s here with us getting the help she needs,” the rescue added.
After a week in recovery, Parcel joined the shelter’s special “Rovernights” program, where families open their homes to a shelter dog for a few days.
This initiative not only helps dogs adjust but also gives potential adopters the chance to fall in love. For little Parcel, it might just lead to her forever home.
