It’s not easy to think about, but the animal world doesn’t always follow the rules we expect. Sometimes things happen that are difficult to explain.
For very young puppies, it’s not unusual for a mother to turn one away. As awful as it seems, it can occur in nature.
Still, even when things look bleak, there’s always another side. In this case, a newborn puppy found the right person willing to give her the chance she needed.
Introducing Shramp
When Shramp was discovered by her rescuer in Texas, she had already been rejected by her mom and desperately needed help.
Her rescuer noticed something wrong with one of her eyes, which looked like it might be an ulcer.
She was also underweight, which made it difficult to guess her exact age, though she was thought to be around two weeks old.
To make things worse, Shramp had several wounds and injuries that required immediate attention.
The first step was feeding her so she could start gaining strength.
With someone now watching over her, Shramp finally had a real chance to survive.
Her rescuer had to stay close at all times, since she was still far too fragile to do anything on her own.
Finding Hope In Care
Day by day, Shramp began making remarkable progress. Her will to live showed in her constant bursts of happiness.
Once she was safe, her caretaker gave her a kennel with a cozy bed of her own. Shramp quickly took to it, spending hours happily napping in her little corner.
After about eleven days of care, it was time for her to be checked at a Texas veterinary clinic.
The vet confirmed that the swelling in her eye had gone down, but she still had a long recovery ahead.
They recommended that Shramp be examined by a veterinary ophthalmologist, since they suspected she might have anterior synechiae.
She also had a small hernia and possibly hydrocephalus. Until her appointment, she would continue recovering at home.
Luckily, she wasn’t alone. She had the best nanny in Theodore Charleston, a dog who loved keeping her company.
Though he couldn’t always match her boundless energy, Charleston stayed by her side, watching over her like a guardian.
Starting Over With A Fresh Chance
After receiving her first vaccination, Shramp was finally able to spend time with the other dogs in the home. They were instantly charmed by her friendly nature.
She adored her new family, and more of her personality came out each day.
Soon, another vet visit revealed some difficult news. To truly help Shramp, they would need to remove her damaged eye.
It wasn’t easy, but it was the only option to make sure she could fully recover.
The procedure went smoothly, and Shramp was allowed to go home that very same day. Her rescuer was told to watch her closely around the clock.
Even after such a tough surgery, Shramp bounced back within days, returning to her cheerful self and playing once more with her rescuer and the other dogs.
Her strength, combined with her rescuer’s devotion, made it possible for her to enjoy life surrounded by people and furry siblings who love her deeply.
