Stray dogs are always on the lookout for food and a spot where they can feel safe. They only hope that people will stop overlooking them and finally give them the kindness they need.
Izzy was one of those strays. She had recently given birth to a sweet litter of puppies and needed human care more than ever.
Trusting that someone would notice her, she walked up to the entrance of a Dollar Store in Jetersville, Virginia.
She sat quietly, gazing through the glass at the people inside. Her sad eyes seemed to be asking for someone to finally see her.
Hoping For Kindness From Strangers
Shoppers felt their hearts sink as they spotted the Pittie looking in through the door. Scratches covered her body, and they could only imagine the hardships she had faced.
The moment they looked into her eyes, they were captivated. They knew they had to help her right away.
They gave her food, held her close, and assured her that she would not be invisible anymore.
Soon, Animal Control officers were called to assist the Pittie, who would later be named Izzy. When they arrived, they quickly noticed she was nursing.
A short search around the store revealed her puppies. They were tiny, hungry, and in desperate need of shelter.
A Shelter Opens Its Doors To Izzy And Her Babies
Rescuers carefully gathered the little family, placed them in a crate, and transported Izzy and her puppies to the Amelia Animal Shelter – Virginia.
The staff welcomed them warmly and scheduled a vet visit the very next day.
“Mom and the babies went to the vet today and got checked out, pedicures and some meds to get all of them right on track. Everyone is doing good and eating well,” the shelter shared on Facebook.
It didn’t take long for the staff to fall for Izzy and her puppies. They loved watching the little ones eagerly eat their meals.
Surrounded By The Affection They Always Needed
Since Izzy needed to rest from time to time, the staff made sure to remind her she was safe now. They wanted her to know her days of struggling were over.
They spent time playing with her outside, bringing her treats, and giving her endless affection. Grateful for the love, Izzy wagged her tail nonstop.
Her heart felt lighter, knowing her puppies were safe and cared for. Neither she nor her babies would ever be overlooked again.
At the shelter, the sweet family continues to thrive. Staff members shower them with cuddles and adore every moment spent with them.
When they are strong enough, they’ll be ready for adoption. Without doubt, Izzy and her little ones will bring happiness to their new families.
