When camping in the woods, you expect to encounter abundant wildlife and admire the natural beauty. What you don’t expect is to find a helpless animal abandoned deep in the forest, just inches away from facing the inevitable.
Yet, that’s exactly what happened to a camper on his way to Oregon’s national forest.
While driving along a gravel logging road, the man stumbled upon a shocking sight: a small creature lying motionless in the middle of the road, barely moving at all.
A Furry Creature In Need
As it was already nighttime, the man wasn’t quite sure if the lump lying motionless on the road was alive. Then, he saw movement.
A few moments later, the camper got out of the car and approached the animal, who turned out to be a tiny, white dog. He lay curled up on the road for who knows how long, already accepting his fate.
But, the man had other plans.
Instead of proceeding with the initial plan, he decided to take the pup into his car. He fed him shredded chicken and warmed him up overnight, as it was already too late for a trip.
The next morning, the man drove for hours to Greenhill Humane Society, Oregon, hoping the organization would provide the dog, named Santi, with the best care possible.
Turns out, he couldn’t be more right!
Santi was taken in by an amazing team of volunteers who immediately showered him with love.
After examining Santi’s condition, the team realized that the pup suffered from minor issues caused by a harsh life.
“He was covered in open, infected sores on his legs and paws, many likely the result of prolonged exposure to rough terrain or improperly applied compression wraps, which were found on his feet when he was discovered. He also had fleas, long nails, and urine-stained limbs, suggesting prolonged neglect,” the Oregon rescue wrote in the post.
However, it didn’t take long for Santi to come out of his shell. Within just a few days, he was already feeling better.
Santi’s Transformation
Santi’s transformation left everyone at the shelter stunned. Not only was he a friendly dog, but he was actually an energetic, happy-go-lucky pup.
As soon as he felt better, Santi started doing zoomies in the yard, playing with his plushies, and showering everyone with love. He had puppy energy, and just seeing him transform into an enthusiastic dog was a rewarding experience.
Soon enough, Santi’s amazing spirit caught the attention of one of the volunteers – it was love at first sight!
He decided to adopt Santi and make him a permanent member of his family.
“It’s a happily ever after for Santi! One of our amazing volunteers, who is part of our dog enrichment program, met Santi when he was spending time with our shelter pups one afternoon. And it was love at first sight,” the rescue shared in another post.
Today, Santi’s life couldn’t be better. He has a wonderful family, including his doggo sister, Phoebe.
Once a pup on the edge, struggling deep in the woods, Santi is now a brand-new dog.
