You think you know someone, and then you learn you’ve been living a lie the whole time… What a shock!
This is exactly what happened to Kaylee Leslie, a dog owner from Virginia, when she adopted Goose, a supposed Golden Retriever! Goose entered Leslie’s life after being adopted from a Texas rescue, and has been thriving ever since.
Then, one day, out of sheer curiosity, Leslie took a DNA test, leading to a shocking realization. Goose, a Golden boy, was, in fact, not a Golden Retriever. He was something else entirely!
A Golden Deceiver?

Ladies and gentlemen, meet the sweetest Golden Deceiver ever!
Okay, to be honest, Goose had nothing to do with his shocking identity twist! The truth is, he’s always been a golden boi, but other than his physical appearance, he had nothing to do with the breed.
The first time Leslie doubted his bloodline was at the groomer’s, when one of them noticed Goose had a black tongue, just like that of a Chow Chow breed.
“When I brought him in, the one girl said ‘Is he a pure Golden?’ To which I replied that since he’s a rescue we aren’t 100% certain but we are almost sure he’s at least 90% Golden from his looks/temperament,” Leslie explained in a Reddit post.

Weeks passed, and Leslie wasn’t particularly motivated to put her doubts to rest. After all, Goose was everything she had ever wanted in a dog: sweet, affectionate, lovable, and had a great way with strangers.
However, one day, out of sheer curiosity, the Virginia owner decided to do a DNA test.
To her shock, Goose not only wasn’t a purebred Golden Retriever, but he didn’t have any Golden Retriever DNA in him, none whatsoever!
“This is Goose! Our golden deceiver who we totally thought was mostly Golden Retriever,” Leslie added in another post.

In the photo Leslie shared on Reddit, Goose’s DNA test reveals that he is a Supermutt, followed by a percentage of German Shepherd, Beagle, Chow Chow, American Pit Bull Terrier, and Labrador Retriever.
Even though he looked like one, Goose, after all, was far from his supposed “original identity.”
He’s One Hundred Percent Golden Boi

The truth is, even though his identity turned out to be something completely different, Leslie doesn’t mind at all.
Sure, she’s surprised by Goose’s real DNA. And no, she didn’t expect him to be any of the breeds revealed in the test. But still, what truly matters is that Goose is a golden boy at heart.
“We’re so surprised! He’s the best. His personality is so golden too which added to our surprise,” Leslie added.

According to his owners, Goose is a whole package! He’s goofy, cuddly and wags his tail every time he sees a person.
Other than that, he likes to do zoomies around the house, he’s treat-motivated, and learns new tricks and commands quickly. The downside? He loves being out so much that it is impossible sometimes to get him in. I mean, he’s a social butterfly after all!
While shocking, Goose’s DNA test didn’t affect his everyday life one bit. He still thrives in his home and has the best family around, forever grateful to be picked up among hundreds of other pups in the shelter.
