While walking on a chilly afternoon in Albany, New York, a Good Samaritan noticed something unusual.
Near a dirty garbage can, a zipped duffel bag seemed to have two eyes peering out.
Unfortunate Situation

Upon closer inspection, the Good Samaritan found a small brown and black tiger cat inside the bag.
Animal control was contacted immediately, and they safely transported the cat to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society (MHHS), New York’s oldest and largest animal welfare group.
Kara Murry, the intake coordinator at MHHS, was surprised by how gentle and affectionate the cat was.
“I remember saying, ‘How could anyone throw you in the trash? You’re so sweet and cuddly!’ She was purring and rubbing against us for pets, almost as if to say, ‘Thank you for saving me,’” Kara told The Dodo.

A New Opportunity
The first step for Newt was a complete medical examination, along with food and water.
During her early hours at the shelter, this charming cat quickly won over everyone who met her.
“She came right up to me for pets and love the first time I met her, which was two days after she arrived. [She] was very sweet and wanted cuddles and loved playing with pipe cleaners,” Heather Ellis, Mohawk Hudson veterinary assistant, told The Dodo.

Thanks to her lovable nature, Newt’s time at the shelter was short. She soon found a warm, caring forever home with a man searching for a gentle companion.
It was truly love at first sight.

Forever Family
With her new devoted dad who recognized her value, Newt no longer has to worry about being cruelly abandoned.

“As they say, one person’s trash is another person’s treasure. And this sweet girl is a truly wonderful treasure for her new dad,” Marguerite Pearson, Mohawk Hudson director of marketing and communications, told The Dodo.
Newt deserves a life full of happiness, love, and plenty of cuddles. May her days be filled with joy!
