Florida Owner Noticed Her Golden Retrievers Were Confused By Spiral Stairs, So She Did Something Amazing

Dogs are always up for a challenge. There are many situations in life where they will be faced with a difficult task, but somehow they will power through it.

A lot of the time, their owners will help them, but sometimes they will even do things on their own and I think that says a lot about them.

When push comes to shove, our furry companions will always show up. However, there are also less serious situations where dogs react in confusion and fear because they are unfamiliar with the problem.

Like in the situation we will talk about. A Florida owner noticed her golden retrievers were terrified of spiral stairs, so she did something surprising.

That’s An Interesting Way To Teach Them

When Ellie Shcraft went on vacation in New Jersey with her family and her dogs, she was eager to relax and just enjoy time with them.

However, things didn’t quite go as planned when she realized that her dogs were perplexed by a spiral staircase when they arrived at the vacation home.

It’s important to point out that they had no issue with climbing up. It’s going down that caused the problems for these pups.

Ellie spent two hours trying to convince them to come down, but that was clearly not working. And trying to take them into her arms likely wouldn’t work either if they were scared.

So, she tried something brilliant. Ellie placed a blanket on the side of the banister and then very carefully climbed down with them.

They were moving step by step, and this actually seemed to work. She suspected that they were terrified of the height which is why she used the blanket.

To make the way down seem easier, she tried to show them how to move herself and they just followed her down. It was a good plan.

A Brilliant Solution In The End

After 2 hours of convincing and getting them to come down, the family from Florida recorded their dogs descending the stairs because they wanted to post it on their TikTok channel.

The video garnered a lot of attention and people flocked to the comments to share their thoughts.

One person commented: “I have had a lot of dogs and none of them liked any stairs being open in the back like those stairs and especially our golden.

I think this is a big issue for all dogs and not just for one breed. Fear of heights is normal for dogs and these stairs can make any of them scared.

Another person said: “Our neighbors dogs can go up their spiral staircase, but not down!! They always want to go upstairs but then have to be escorted down.

Well, that makes me wonder why they are always so eager to go up, even though they know they can’t go down.

Lastly, somebody commented: “My boy only does carpeted stairs. No wood ones and for sure no open back ones.

This is also a good idea for anyone, because it makes the descent so much easier. For dog owners, this is a brilliant idea.

Looking at this whole situation, it’s clear that it’s not just dogs who dislike spiral staircases, but humans as well, and it’s important to remedy this problem for our furry companions.
