How do you leave a dog and not have your heart utterly broken? And how do you not wonder about their well-being afterward?
These are the questions running through my mind every time I see helpless pups in harrowing situations, abandoned by those who once cared for them.
Suzette Hall, a long-time rescuer from California, has witnessed many of these cases firsthand. Although more heartbroken and shocked than most can imagine, she always finds the strength to move on and provide these four-legged furballs with a second chance.
This time, what she found was a bonded pair of matted pups left in the trash, struggling to find decent shelter and food for themselves…
“It Was Their Only Shelter”

It’s never easy to receive news about an abandoned dog, let alone two. However, when Suzette Hall, the founder of Logan’s Legacy, heard about a bonded pair of matted pups living in a discarded dresser, she rushed to the scene immediately.
According to neighbors, the dogs had been living in trash for about a week. The old dresser was the only thing they had, besides some food the people had been leaving for them.
“They showed up about a week ago…Two tiny, broken souls laying beside the trash. Curled up next to an old, discarded dresser like it was the only shelter they had left in the world,” Hall shared in a Facebook post.

Still, only food and water were far from enough. These pups needed proper care, and from their appearance, it is easy to assume that they had been neglected for most of their lives.
“Neighbors had been leaving food out, trying their best. But these babies were so matted, so filthy, and one of them… had patches of skin just gone,” Hall added.
One of the residents told Hall that the pups never left each other’s side. They were best friends. When the time to pick them up came, Hall never thought of separating them.
She approached them gently, trying to befriend them with kind words and delicious treats.

Although scared and failed by hoomans earlier in life, they decided to put their trust in Hall. Before long, both had leashes around their necks and were safely loaded into Hall’s car.
They Deserve A Second Chance

It only took some kindness for this bonded duo to feel relieved in Suzette’s car. During the ride, they were sitting calmly in the passenger seat, giving their rescuer looks filled with trust and love.
This was the first moment in a long while that the pups were showered with care. This was the beginning of their new chapter, a better one!
“These two never should’ve been left to rot beside a pile of garbage. They are not trash. They are worthy. And from this moment forward, their lives will reflect that,” the California rescuer concluded in the post.
The first stop was a pet hospital, where these pups needed medical attention.

Soon, both dogs will be sent to a nice foster home, where they will learn all about love, socialization and what it means to be a dog.
When the time is right, there’s no doubt that the dogs will be adopted into a nice home with people who truly deserve them.
Good luck, furry friends!
