It’s no secret that Australian Shepherds are perfect herding dogs. With their impressive intelligence and impeccable work ethic, they seem to be the ideal choice for farm life.
Take Meadow, an Aussie from an Oregon farm, for example. He takes his job seriously and ensures herding is no joke when he’s on the watch.
Recently, he took his assignment even more seriously than anyone expected. When his family saw him “herding” the newest farm tool, they couldn’t contain their laughter!
A Lawn Mower, Seriously?

Meadow has been the family’s sweetheart for so many years now. And yes, he herds other farm animals like the real pro he is. I mean, he has a reputation to maintain, don’t you think?
There’s only a slight issue: his herding instinct can sometimes go overboard, and he can feel the need to “navigate” those non-living farm tools too, such as the newest lawn mower!

Recently, the family decided to purchase an automated mower for their farm, and Meadow didn’t waste time. As soon as the mower started “working”, he followed it around and made sure it did the job right.
“Our Australian shepherd has really taken to our new automower and has decided it’s his job to make sure it’s ok and that it puts itself to bed when it’s done,” the family wrote in the post.
The video of Meadow herding the lawn mower on her Oregon farm soon went viral on Instagram, leaving his family’s followers rolling in the aisles.
“Thinks it’s just some kind of grazing animal he’s supposed to watch over,” Meadow’s family added in the video description.
Farm Dog And Nanny: Meadow Can Do It All

All jokes aside, Meadow, now a four-year-old Aussie, is the epitome of the ideal dog.
He’s been the only pet for so long, and when the time came for him to welcome another pup into the family, Meadow did more than an amazing job! A couple of years ago, his family adopted Maple, a dog who had a hard time finding a forever home due to his excessive energy.
Enter: Meadow!
Not only did he accept Maple, but he instinctively became his nanny and found the ideal way to occupy his mind.
“Meadow has transitioned seamlessly into nanny mode, taking the majority of this little guy’s energy (and very gently letting him know the rules). The way Meadow will grab a toy and work to get Maple interested in it is so heartwarming,” the family wrote in another post.

Fast forward a few years, Meadow and Maple don’t know life without each other anymore. They truly enjoy being together, and soaking up all the beauty farm life can offer.
And the best part? They always have some tasks to do. Be it herding (a lawn mower counts), or just watching over their home from potential danger, the two do it all. And they couldn’t be happier!
