Sometimes we form perceptions about our dog’s future appearance, and they turn out to be different from what we expected.
But, here’s the thing: in the end, it doesn’t matter because we love them no matter what they look like.
Recently, an Arizona girl had the same shocking realization when she learned that her dark brown-and-black Yorkshire Terrier, Chanel, is, in fact, not black at all. The video showing Chanel growing into a completely different color has become an absolute hit!
Shocking Fur Change
When she brought Chanel home seven years ago, Patricia, an Arizona photographer, didn’t know her pup would soon outgrow her puppy coat.
This dark brown-and-black girl soon took everyone by surprise, especially her owner, when she started to grow her light-colored fur.
In the TikTok video posted in June 2025, Patricia showcased a fabulous yet shocking change Chanel went through. Now, she looks like a brand-new dog.
“I had no idea that Yorkies could change colors like that once they’ve grown out of their puppy hair. And to think I almost named her Boba,” the video text reads.
Seven years later, Chanel is a striking pup with a beautiful, long coat that people find hard to believe belonged to a once black pup.
Soon enough, the video Patricia shared with her followers became a total hit. People commented on Chanel’s look, sharing their own similar experiences with their dogs – some of them quite funny!
“I didn’t know Shih Tzus changed color either and we named ours Oreo now it doesn’t even suit him,” one commenter jested.
“Mine was the beige-blue color, and she got blonder and blonder over years, it’s the cutest thing ever,” another person added.
Here’s To Many More Years Together
Besides her shocking color change, it’s safe to say that Chanel doesn’t hide any more secrets, and that’s one of the cutest things about her. According to her mom, she’s the epitome of the perfect pet, always being calm and gentle to everyone.
Chanel loves going out, meeting new people, and her mind is brilliant. The pup learned the potty training system within only five days, as her owner shared on TikTok.
Sadly, as years went by, she gradually slowed down. Coping with cataracts, Chanel today enjoys most of her days in her dad’s lap and hanging with her doggo sibling, Louie.
“Now she’s attached to my boyfriends hip, can barely see bc of her cataracts but still is just the most loving baby ever. I just want her to know that i am going to continue to give her the most fulfilling life possible bc she’s changed my life for the better,” Patricia wrote in the post.
One thing is for sure: Chanel lives the best life possible. Thanks to her mom, she gets to soak in all the beauty and receive all the love from the hoomans surrounding her.
And her coat color? Still strikingly beautiful!
