There’s no doubt that an owner would do anything to save their furry companions when needed. And I mean – anything! Even surrendering them to a rescue organization if that was the only way to give their dog a fighting chance.
When Carolyn Knight, a dog owner from Florida, found herself in a similar situation, that’s exactly what she did.
She noticed that her tiny, six-pound Chihuahua, Luna, suddenly started feeling down. After a couple of unsuccessful attempts to help this sweet girl on her own, Carolyn did what was best for her: she signed her over to a rescue organization.
However, what the vets discovered about Luna’s condition days later would soon leave everyone shocked!
Shocking Discovery
One day, Carolyn noticed something different about Luna. The dog was out in her yard, and when she came inside, she started to make weird noises.
Worried that she might be choking, Carolyn immediately sprang into action. She tried to help the dog with the Heimlich maneuver, but absolutely nothing came out. The next thing she did was take Luna to the hospital.
After explaining the pup’s situation, the vets suspected Luna had an obstruction in her throat. However, the tests, too, showed nothing.
The two came back home, and Luna still didn’t feel better. She was vomiting, hiding in corners, and refused to eat at all.
Carolyn knew this couldn’t be good news, so she returned to the vet. That’s when she was told that Luna needed expensive exploratory abdominal surgery in order to find what was wrong.
The Florida owner was devastated. She didn’t have the funding to proceed with surgery, and Luna’s time was running out. So, the vet suggested another option.
He advised the owner to turn to a rescue organization that could fund Luna’s treatment. The only problem was – it would mean giving up Luna legally.
Although devastated by the situation, Carolyn knew she had to do what was best for the dog. Before long, Jaime McKnight of Pawlicious Poochie Pet Rescue in Florida received a call about Luna, and immediately agreed to help.
Luna and Carolyn said one final, teary goodbye, knowing this could be the last time to see each other. The very next day, Luna was in the hospital.
“She is being hospitalized immediately as she has been continuously vomiting,” Jaime explained in the post.
Luna went into her exploratory surgery, and the results were shocking! No obstruction was found in her throat, and this little girl still wasn’t feeling better. Then, the vets decided to do a barium study – with the X-ray examined by a specialist.
This time, Luna’s diagnosis was even more shocking. Luna, as the results showed after all, had an obstruction – a mango seed. The reason why it was invisible at the time was because it was lodged horizontally in her throat.
“The puzzle pieces finally came together for LUNA as she hangs on to life. Literally. Was suspected she swallowed mango seed. Case presented as foreign body. The plot twist is the foreign body is splintered and lodged in her throat,” Jaime wrote in another post.
With her diagnosis finally being clear, there was only one thing left: to remove the seed. Luna needed endoscopic surgery, which, according to the vet, was anything but a simple procedure.
He even warned the rescuer about possible complications, but Jaime knew this was the only way to help Luna.
With the help of her community, Jaime managed to fund this surgery, too. And then, the most amazing news arrived!
Not only did Luna survive the procedure, but she literally thrived immediately after that. Luna was so evidently relieved and enthusiastic that she even went home with her caregiver on the same day.
The Twist That Made Everyone Cry Tears Of Joy
After informing Luna’s previous owner about the outcome, Carolyn couldn’t have been happier. She cried tears of joy after hearing the whole story in detail. She even started a fundraiser to donate the money to the rescue.
However, when that didn’t work, Carolyn’s community stepped up. Her family and friends helped her with a donation for Luna’s well-being.
But, that’s when the real twist happened! After getting a clean bill of health for Luna, Jaime decided not to put her up for adoption. Instead, she decided to surprise Carolyn and her family by bringing Luna back!
When she learned that Luna was actually returning home, Carolyn couldn’t contain her emotions. She was so overwhelmed with joy that she could not stop crying.
“Luna belongs with her family. She was sooo happy to be reunited! Luna is one lucky little miracle and today broken hearts and tears were replaced with love and smiles,” Jaime concluded.
The two finally said hello to each other in a heartwarming reunion full of emotions.
After a week of uncertainty and many ups and downs, Luna and Carolyn were finally together, and Jaime knew this was the only right outcome.
The Florida owner and Luna went home, giving each other the sweetest hugs, starting a new, exciting chapter together.
