I have always wondered how often dog rescuers deal with fake calls or situations where they end up finding a different animal altogether.
Events like this probably don’t happen often, but they show us how important it is to have solidarity and kindness, even when you are rescuing other animals.
However, the situation that we will talk about today is even more unusual than that. What happened to these Colorado rescuers was bizarre.
They were just doing their job when they suddenly received a distress call from a Good Samaritan about an ‘injured dog.’ What they found on the scene shocked them.
It Wasn’t Even An Animal
After the call, the rescuers from the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region in Colorado rushed to the scene, but what they saw when they got there was pretty funny.
As it turns out, the people who made the call were driving by, so they didn’t really get a good look at the ‘dog,’ but they thought that calling couldn’t hurt.
The rescuers came and realized what it really was. It was not an animal… not really, anyway. What they found on the scene was actually a stuffed tiger animal.
They described it as the kind of stuffed animal you win at carnivals at some random game.
Why someone left this in a field in the middle of nowhere is a question that no one really has an answer to.
So, without wasting a moment, the rescuer grabbed the stuffed animal, placed it in a kennel, and then went back to the shelter.
She took it so that no one would mistake it for a real animal anymore, and it would be pretty funny when she showed it to other rescuers.
Hysterical Reactions
When the Colorado rescuers first posted on Facebook about the stuffed tiger, it went about as you would imagine.
The post went viral, and many reactions poured into the comment section. It was really hilarious reading through them. Here are some of the most interesting ones.
One person commented: “I tried to rescue a toy grenade out of the road thinking it was a turtle. It happens.”
Well, yeah, I agree. I mean, I am afraid to admit all the things I have mistaken for an animal, but it happens even to the best of us.
Another person said: “Ok so now I want to see the follow up of the plush getting washed and rehabilitated and working as an emotional support officer at the station lol.”
This one gave me a good laugh. I imagine that the rescuers will definitely place the stuffed tiger somewhere in their offices just for the fun of it.
Lastly, somebody commented: “That is the world’s ugliest stuffed tiger! Lol. Good save tho. That’s funny.”
Yeah, looking at it now, and it really is a horrible looking stuffed animal. I am now definitely convinced that this is something that people win at carnivals. Who would willingly buy that?
Nevertheless, this got a good chuckle out of me and many other people. It’s funny how a distress call for an injured animal turned into something so wholesome in the end.
