I wonder what could have happened to any dog who gets scared whenever they see other humans.
Most of the time, it’s neglect and abuse, but those words alone don’t picture it. Those dogs suffer for so long that they are almost conditioned into being wary of people.
It’s heartbreaking and sad, but that’s the truth, unfortunately. Many of them need a long rehabilitation just to live some kind of a normal life, whatever that means for them.
When this volunteer first met a dog named Slim Jim, she couldn’t believe her eyes. He just looked so scared of everything, so she knew that she had to do something.
A Kind Gesture For A Scared Dog
After their fateful meeting at a shelter in North Carolina, Leslie thought it would be a good idea to take this dog into her home for one night.
Considering that she volunteered for them often, they also thought that it would be good for this dog to take a little time off, so they agreed to it.
Leslie knew from the beginning that he was a very timid pup, and it would take a while before he gained her trust, but she was willing to try anyway.
Even though she didn’t plan on spending a lot of time with Slim Jim, fate would have other plans. After finally taking him into her house, she noticed a small change right away.
While he was still very wary and timid, he was also really curious about everything in her home. He would spend a lot of his time looking around and trying out new things.
Leslie gave him some toys, and he just loved playing with them. He still didn’t like being near her, so she gave him his space.
Slim Jim Was Slowly Adjusting
She let him wander around, and then he would decide when it was time to go and greet her. Slim Jim eventually came around and slowly introduced himself.
Her heart broke for him because she could just tell how scared he still looked. It was clear that he had been abused wherever he had been previously.
Slim Jim was slowly getting accustomed to Leslie’s presence, and that was just wonderful. It was a step in the right direction, and it happened in no time.
However, later that night, she found out that this dog was actually going to be taken in by a new shelter in North Carolina, named Forgotten Now Family Rescue.
They picked him up, which made Leslie sad. Even though he was only supposed to stay for one day, she formed a bond with him, and she couldn’t just forget about him.
This Dog Is Very Fortunate To Have Leslie
She later contacted that same rescue organization to learn more about Slim Jim and what happened to him, only to learn that something did indeed happen over the last few days.
As it turns out, the rescuers had to remove his eye because it was infected, and it was only going to cause him more trouble.
He was recovering well, but that was not a problem for this sweet dog, who was now making progress every day. It was clear that he was becoming braver with every day.
Leslie offered to foster him, and they agreed. She wanted to be reunited with him again, and she got that chance.
She noted that she loves this dog very much, but even so, she is only going to remain his foster mom until he finds a new family.
It’s clear that their bond is a special one, and it would be good for Slim Jim if it were a foster fail, but at the same time, it will be amazing if this sweet pup finds somebody special who will care for him the same way Leslie did.
