If there is one thing that we are all too familiar with seeing in dog stories, it’s pups who are struggling to find a home in a shelter.
When you analyze it closely, you realize that there is nothing wrong with these dogs. They just have bad luck, and this can impact their life in a negative way.
Many pups start feeling depressed after spending a long time in the shelter. All the noise and isolation make it hard to cope, so they shut down.
That’s kind of what happened to Brutus, a pup who was taken in by the Humane Society of Central Illinois (HSCI), and his story is heartbreaking.
Brutus Deserved Better

Like many dogs, Brutus was unfortunately abandoned by his owner, but he wasn’t actually surrendered to the shelter.
The owner left him on the streets of Illinois, and the rescuers actually found the pup.
When he realized that wasn’t going to happen, he went with his rescuers, and they tried to find out who his owner was.
After finding contact information, they called the woman and told her about Brutus. She told the rescuers that she moved to Tennessee and had no plans to go back for the dog.

This was heartbreaking for the rescuers to see because they were hoping that maybe Brutus was just lost, but that was not the case.
His owner just didn’t want him. That’s why they decided to step in. They were going to do their best to make him feel comfortable while they looked for his forever home.
The Illinois rescuers were optimistic about finding somebody soon, but that wasn’t the case. Time went on, and Brutus found himself in a sad situation.
The longer he stayed in the shelter, the more he felt sad and isolated. The people who overlooked him all the time also made him feel more depressed.
Brutus Is Still Looking For A Home

He spent 365 days in the shelter, and the result was a pup who was struggling to cope with this kind of life. The rescuers wanted to help him, so they posted a video on their TikTok channel.
They were hoping to gather enough attention around Brutus so that somebody might reach out and give him the chance that he deserves.
In the video, they basically explained how they try to make him feel at home in the shelter, but it’s not really helping anymore.
Brutus is a really cheerful dog who loves being around other people. He is a bit stubborn, but he can be trained, which is why he needs someone with a strong personality.

He also doesn’t get along with other dogs. The rescuers don’t really have an idea why, but he would need to be the only dog in the household if he were to be adopted.
They have also explained in the post that Brutus is a high-energy dog and his situation has made him feel slightly depressed, but they are confident that it would change in a second if he were adopted.
While the rescuers know that his chances are not that great after a full year of nobody adopting him, they are going to do their best to help him find a forever home.
I really hope that Brutus finds someone truly special who will understand him and love him for who he is.
