Who knows how many times Katerina, a sweet shelter dog, wondered why nobody wanted to adopt her as she desperately waited to get noticed?
She was the definition of the perfect pup – affectionate, gorgeous, and playful, and still through no fault of her own, she was overlooked time and time again.
The four-year-old dog had been in the shelter system since 2024, and in February of 2025, she was transferred to the Humane Society of Broward County.
When Katerina arrived at the Florida shelter, she quickly won the hearts of the shelter staff who considered her the ideal dog.
Will she finally find happiness?
Katerina Hopes To Get A Second Chance
The pup hoped that her luck would change and that she would meet her forever humans.
Katerina was checked by the shelter vet team. Since she was heartworm negative, the doggo started receiving treatment, which would be free of charge for her adoptive family.
Dolly’s Dream, a charity that helps the Pit Bull breed find forever homes, covered the cost of Katerina’s adoption fee.
And yet, sadly, nobody wanted to adopt her.
Day after day, Katerina longed for love as she gazed at the potential adopters with a wistful look in her eyes. Every time they passed her by, the doggo felt invisible.
Staff and volunteers couldn’t stand watching their favorite dog getting overlooked. She was the perfect dog, and her shelter friends knew that Katerina only needed someone to notice her so they came up with a great plan.
Katerina’s shelter friends placed a harrowing note on her kennel that began with “THE INVISIBLE DOG” written in all-caps.
“Can you see me? Can you say my name and say ‘Hello?’ I’ve been here for months and I have been overlooked. Nobody wants to see me or take me home. I’m not invisible. I’m actually quite a catch. I love kids, dogs, playing ball, going for walks and giving hugs. I’m an all-around good, friendly dog. Please notice me. My heart is breaking,” the note read.
The Dog’s Greatest Dream Comes True
The shelter posted the heartwrenching video on social media as the pup waited in her kennel with the note prominently displayed on the door.
The clip touched the hearts of the viewers and took the internet by storm. Everyone rooted for Katerina to find the family of her dreams.
In order to increase her visibility, the doggo also posed for a photoshoot with photographer, Mike Ruizoni.
Fortunately, the stars aligned for sweet Katerina, and she finally received the attention that she yearned for. A great family adopted her and vowed to give her endless love.
Katerina’s long wait paid off. She found her perfect match, and we’re overjoyed for her.
