Dog With ‘Past Baggage’ Completely Ignored During Virginia Rescue’s Adoption Event

Dog With ‘Past Baggage’ Completely Ignored During Virginia Rescue’s Adoption Event

As human beings, we tend to make stereotypes based on first impressions, even with dogs. While that’s perfectly natural in theory, the reality is often quite different…and completely heartbreaking!

Due to her “unapproachable” look, Daisy, a long-time resident at the Virginia shelter, missed her opportunity to meet her potential adopters at a recent shelter event.

She lay there with her head between her paws, looking utterly devastated that no one took the time to at least say “hello!” Everyone saw her as unadoptable, but the truth is – Daisy would have made an incredible companion!

A Survivor Overlooked By Everyone

Being a shy dog still coping with her past trauma cost Daisy a lot. She was recently completely overlooked by dozens of people at the adoption event organized by Hope for Life Rescue in Virginia.

The reason – she had baggage from the past that no one wanted to deal with

The HFLR team showcased Daisy lying in her kennel, with many people visiting their facility and adopting other dogs while she remained ignored.

“We had an amazing adoption day yesterday, with so many of our puppies finding homes or heading out on home visits! But for dogs like Daisy, who come with a little extra baggage, there was no interest,” the Virginia rescue wrote in the video.

The saddest part is – Daisy’s baggage came with no fault of her own. In her previous shelter, she was attacked by a group of dogs and barely survived, leaving her with long-term scars, both on her body and on her heart.

Just when it seemed that Daisy’s terrible events were behind her, she suffered again.

As a result of a botched spay, this sweet girl was left with a remaining reproductive organ, which put her at risk for cancer. On top of all that, Daisy cracked her canine tooth, which was eventually removed by her current caregivers.

While she’s now in perfect condition, all these things affected Daisy’s behavior and trust. She’s still a great dog who would have made a great companion, but she still needs a slow introduction and a lot of patience.

Sadly, her potential adopters didn’t see it that way…

All She Needs Is Patience And Love

There’s no doubt that Daisy is a genuinely sweet dog who looks for nothing but cuddles and love. Underneath her sorrowful eyes lies a happy-go-lucky girl who would love nothing more than to have a home of her own.

“She is such a happy girl who enjoys human affection and is loved very much by all of our staff,” the rescue stated on social media.

Daisy loves to do zoomies, she’s all about her squeaky toys, and will do anything for a treat.

Another thing that will make her a great family addition is the fact that Daisy gets along with cats. And, while being dog-selective, she doesn’t have a problem interacting with calmer dogs that meet her temperament.

“She is dog selective, is okay with cats, and would do best with no small children,” the rescue concluded.

One thing is for sure: Daisy deserves a second chance at life, and she is definitely worthy of love. She just needs someone who will show her patience, and that someone, without a doubt, is on the way!
