You don’t have to be a dog lover to feel compassion for one that’s been abandoned. However, it’s the bond of ownership that allows you to understand the pain of an abandoned animal on a deeper level.
When Tina Holland, from Houston, Texas, went on a daily lunchtime walk with her three dogs, she didn’t expect to find anything unusual. Then, she spotted a heartbreaking sight near the dumpster, only feet away from a busy road.
A cardboard box containing a pee pad and a toy inside – and next to it was one helpless, weeks-old furry girl crawling on her belly.
Utterly shocked, Holland immediately rushed to the poor pup’s aid.
It Broke Her Heart
It didn’t take long for the Texas owner to connect the dots. Seeing the cardboard box filled with puppy stuff, she knew that the tiny puppy lying next to it had been recently abandoned by her family.
The only thing that Holland couldn’t understand was the reason behind such a cruel act.
To make things worse, this helpless furball couldn’t stop trembling. She was in desperate need of a caregiver, and yet she was left at the mercy of the streets.
Holland didn’t waste time. She immediately scooped her up and tucked her into her sweatshirt to make her warm. And, it worked! Seeing this little girl enjoy the coziness of a warm hoodie was truly precious. For the first time in who knows how long, the pup felt at peace.
Upon returning to her office, Holland offered the pup some water and showered the dog with love. In the meantime, she made sure this tiny girl didn’t sustain any major injuries. Fortunately, the pup seemed to be in perfect condition.
Devastated by her situation, Holland knew expert care was the best option for the puppy at this point. She contacted Dawgs Fight Back in New Hampshire, and soon enough, the pup, named Peeka, was safely transported to her new temporary home.
“She is the sweetest 10 week old pup. She was left in box next to a dumpster in Houston last week. Luckily she was found by a sweet person who loves animals,” DFB wrote on Facebook.

Peeka, a Pittie mix, is truly one of a kind.
Despite her abandonment, this teeny-tiny girl is the epitome of the perfect cuddler. She loves every single person and is fond of other animals, which makes her an ideal adoption candidate.
“We think she is a pittie mix and has the sweetest little green eyes. She loves cuddles and other animals. She is ready for adoption,” the rescue concluded.
For now, Peeka will remain in the shelter’s care, learning all about being a dog. She’s already getting along with other dogs amazingly and has a happy-go-lucky personality, which makes her socialization training quite easy.
What she truly needs is a home and a family who will never let her down anymore. There’s no doubt Peeka will make a great addition to any family, and all she asks in return is to be loved!
She definitely deserves it!
