Anytime a sweet and loving dog is mistreated severely by the people they trust the most, it leaves a mark on them.
The trauma they endure can not heal easily, and most of them will completely withdraw from the world. That’s just sad to see.
While it may seem like they will struggle their whole lives because of that pain, some dogs manage to recover, and that is only thanks to the wonderful people who adopt them.
This shy pup was used for breeding for a big part of her life, and when she was no longer useful, her owner discarded her. Her story doesn’t end there because a kind person from North Carolina decided to give her a chance.
An Incredible Transformation
When Laney first took in Maybelline, she was surprised by how shy she was. However, that attitude would not last very long.
Maybelline realized that she was safe with these new people, and that caused an immense change in her. She became more outgoing and confident.
And, her new foster parents were so proud of her because of this. Despite enduring so much in her life, it was nice to see that she was still a high-spirited pup.
Her favorite way of showing it was wiggling her whole backend. She did it whenever her foster parents came home or she would do it whenever something excited her.
It was her signature move. Even though Laney takes care of Maybelline mostly herself, she still likes her husband much more. In fact, she is obsessed with him.
She won’t even let Laney give her kisses. Maybelline knows who matters to her more in that family. It’s pretty obvious.
After realizing that she was going to stay a while with these wonderful humans, the transformation was obvious. No one anticipated that she would recover so soon.
Laney noted that Maybelline was making a big change every day. They would discover something new about her personality all the time.
She Trusts Humans Again
When she first took her in, Laney learned about her past. She was shocked after realizing that she was neglected by an owner and used only for breeding.
She would be kept mostly outside in horrible conditions, and that was just cruel. In fact, her previous owner ended up surrendering her and then asking for her back.
When the shelter staff from North Carolina told him that the only way he was getting her back was if she were spayed, he refused to get her back. It was clear that he only wanted to use her again.
Her new foster mom was just so happy that she was with them now. They are constantly showering her with affection and showing her new things.
Maybelline didn’t even know what toys were or how to play with them, but she ended up learning over time.
Even using a dog bed caused her confusion because she was not used to living in such good conditions. It really just goes to show how much she suffered before.
After spending some time with her foster parents, they realized that she had learned to trust humans again. It took a bit, but they were so happy to see that she recovered.
Considering how horrible her previous life was, it’s a miracle that she has remained so sweet and loving toward other people. Her foster parents are so glad to see that she is doing great.
