At first, it’s hard to tell where they’re coming from. You search around, and eventually, you realize there’s something alive — stuck somewhere it shouldn’t be.
You want to help, but you also know you could hurt the animals if you intervene on your own. The best choice is to call in the experts.
That’s exactly what happened to a group of construction workers in Florida, who quickly discovered they were not alone on site.
A Surprising Discovery
The workers had stumbled across four fluffy baby owls trapped inside damaged air vents. Without hesitation, they contacted WILD Florida Rescue (WFR) for help.
When rescuers arrived, they confirmed the babies had fallen through the torn vent and ended up on the ground below.
The parents were nowhere in sight, and the nest wasn’t close by. Since the owlets were far too young to fly, they had no way of returning on their own.
The team quickly came up with a plan. They constructed a temporary nest near the construction site to give the owlets shelter.
Although safe, their parents still hadn’t come to retrieve them. So the rescuers made more adjustments, moving the makeshift nest closer to the original nesting spot.
That small change made all the difference — soon enough, the parents returned and began caring for their babies again.
Keeping The Family Together
While the reunion was a success, the rescuers knew it couldn’t last. The damaged vents posed a risk, and leaving the owls there wasn’t safe.
To protect the little family, WFR moved them to a hybrid location designed to mimic their natural nesting area while keeping them secure.
This solution allowed the construction work to continue while ensuring the owls remained safe. To be extra cautious, cameras were set up so rescuers could monitor the family’s progress.
Day after day, they watched the owlets grow stronger, cared for and fed by their attentive parents. The heartwarming scenes gave everyone hope.
Ready To Spread Their Wings
The rescuers waited patiently for the big milestone — the day the owlets would learn to fly. Eventually, that moment arrived.
Now able to take to the skies, the young birds are one step closer to independence. It may still be some time before they leave the nest entirely, but their progress is a promising sign.
