Arizona Worker Hears Strange Cries From A Sinkhole Makes Startling Find

During a regular inspection in Yavapai County, Arizona, a utility worker nearly fell into a concealed pit. Seconds later, strange noises from the sinkhole caught his attention.

Peering into the opening, he was stunned. At the bottom of the 10-foot hole was a small, frightened dog. Clearly shaken and without a way out, the little pup looked desperate.

The worker immediately assured the dog that he’d get help, then called Yavapai County Sheriff’s Animal Control to report the situation and request assistance.

Thankful To Be Rescued

When Animal Control Officer Alex Quinonez received the alert, he sprang into action and headed to the scene.

The worker remained nearby, offering comfort to the dog until help arrived. Once Quinonez arrived, he evaluated the scene and borrowed a ladder.

Climbing down, he met the elderly Chihuahua, later named Arlo, who remained calm, without barking or growling. He was thankful that the officer was there to rescue him.

As Quinonez lifted him up, Arlo trembled. He needed a moment to understand what was happening and to feel safe again.

Back on solid ground, Quinonez noticed Arlo had some minor scrapes on his front paws and a lot of dirt in his ears.

“The hole was over 10 feet deep, and the dog had possible injuries to his front legs but was otherwise ok,” Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.

Quinonez then brought Arlo to the Yavapai Humane Society, located in Prescott, Arizona, where he received medical care.

Thankfully, aside from needing some rest and recovery, the 13-year-old dog was in stable condition.

Arlo’s Hoping For A Loving Home

With no owner coming forward, the shelter team welcomed Arlo and committed to finding him a permanent home.

Thanks to the staff’s care, Arlo soon showed just how affectionate he truly is.

“But through all of that he has remained as sweet and cuddly as ever. Despite his age Arlo has got a lot of pep in his step and is ready to take on the day, one paw at a time,” Yavapai Humane Society posted on Facebook.

Later, Arlo was diagnosed with diabetes.

Despite this, he’s still full of life and just needs some extra care and attention.

“Recently, however, Arlo was diagnosed with diabetes, which has brought some changes to his daily routine. This just means he will need a lot of extra love and care, but despite that his spirit is still as bright as ever,” the shelter added.

Fingers crossed Arlo finds the loving family he deserves. He’s earned it.
