Losing your dog can cause a whirlwind of emotions, especially if you know it’s been a while and it is not coming back to its home.
That’s when hope starts dying down, and some owners just accept that their beloved furry companion is gone forever.
However, in some stories, the owners get lucky enough to be reunited with their dog after a few months or more, and this is something that gives hope to all owners who lose their dog.
There is always a chance. For this North Carolina owner, the situation was quite unusual. Her dog went missing when she escaped from the yard, but she had no idea what was about to happen next.
She Can’t Reclaim Her Dog

It was a very ordinary day for Ariel Wolf, who was just enjoying a nice day out in the yard with her dog, Mochi, who was 13 at the time.
Even though she was partially blind and deaf, she was still pretty nimble. Then, out of the blue, the pup noticed a small hole in the backyard fence and crawled through it.
In a moment, she just vanished and Ariel was starting to panic. She tried going after her, but the pup was nowhere to be seen.
She went door-to-door in her neighborhood and asked people if they saw the dog. One of the neighbors actually did see the dog and immediately sent her to a nearby shelter in North Carolina.

Wolf immediately went to that particular shelter to reclaim her dog, but when the staff performed examinations on Mochi, they found something strange.
Her microchip was nowhere to be found. They tried scanning in a few different ways, but the result was always the same.
What they did find, however, was a microchip belonging to someone else. Now, this was just shocking for Wolf. She was starting to fear for her dog.
Shocking Development

The shelter staff had no choice but to call the previous owners because it was the only microchip the dog had. It seemed improbable that the one Wolf registered had just gone missing.
Since nobody was responding and asking to claim Mochi, the staff told Wolf that they have to wait at least 72 hours in case someone comes to claim her.
They also felt bad for having to do this, but after the three days passed, they told her that they had sent a letter to the address that was listed on the microchip.
If no one responds in 10 days, she will be able to reclaim her dog. Wolf didn’t want to wait for this, so she contacted the shelter where she adopted her dog and asked them to confirm that the dog was hers.

After this happened, everything was sorted out in no time, and now, Mochi just had to go to the shelter and legally adopt her dog again.
Fortunately, everything ended well and Mochi was returned to Wolf. After being reunited, Wolf was not going to let her out of her sight anymore.
Even though Mochi crossed the rainbow bridge only two years after this incident, she lived a long and fulfilling life with her beloved human, and that is all that matters.
