If dogs could define happiness, they would say that to be happy is to have caring humans by their side who love them unconditionally.
Sadly, although all canines crave happiness, many shelter dogs never get the chance to find it.
It’s even worse when dogs think they have found their happy ending only to have it snatched from them right away.
That is exactly what happened to a lovely pup named Onyx.
He dreamed of finding a happy home. Just when he thought his greatest wish had come true, his bubble burst and everything turned upside down.
Another Rejection
The two-year-old Onyx arrived at Associated Humane Societies in Newark, New Jersey, after his owner surrendered him.
The pup felt rejected and let down, but he still refused to give up hope of finding happiness.
When a shelter volunteer offered to foster him, things seemed to get better for the pup.
Onyx enjoyed life in his foster home. He loved taking walks and spending time outdoors, but most of all, he loved cuddling with his foster mom.
His foster family, as well as, his shelter friends kept rooting for him to find a permanent home and the love of his life.
When a New Jersey family decided to adopt Onyx, everyone was thrilled.
The pup was excited, too. He said goodbye to his foster mom and moved into his new home.
Unfortunately, Onyx experienced heartbreak.
After staying with his adopters for 72 hours, they returned him to the shelter, saying that they couldn’t keep up with the dog’s energy.
After Rain Comes Sunshine
Instead of having the time of his life in his new home, Onyx found himself in a narrow shelter kennel, feeling lonelier than ever. The sweet dog wondered what he had done wrong.
His former foster mom couldn’t take him back because of her travel arrangements, but she made sure to visit him often and take him on walks.
The kind woman understood how Onyx felt and knew that he could only be happy if he found a new family.
She posted Onyx’s story on her TikTok account, hoping that the pup would capture the heart of a wonderful family who would give him a home.
“The absolute worst feeling ever and feeling there isn’t much we can do to help him besides help him find his home…,” a part of the caption read.
The TikTok community was deeply moved to see the confusing look on Onyx’s face as he looked at his foster mom through the kennel bars.
Fortunately, everything worked out for the adorable pup.
A kind-hearted family came forward and adopted him.
The once-rejected doggo is now living his best life. Finally, the stars aligned for him, and he got the happy ending that he always hoped for.
