While walking home after having dinner in Brooklyn, New York, Hunter Tonn and her fiancé heard some unusual yelping sounds coming from a trash bag.
The couple immediately rushed toward the trash. Tonn took the bag, visibly upset.
Once she opened the trash bag, they realized that there was one more bag inside it and that an animal was in it.
Tonn and her fiancé noticed that the animal was moving inside the bag so they expected that it would pop out, but since that didn’t happen, they cut the second bag and took a look inside.
Getting Help As Soon As Possible

When the kind-hearted couple realized the identity of the animal who was heartlessly dumped, their hearts broke in pieces.
It was an injured senior dog. He was covered in his own pee and badly needed a bath.
Tonn and her fiancé decided to take him home and clean him up.
However, within minutes, the doggo’s condition deteriorated and he started having seizures.
The couple was terrified that they would lose him. Tonn’s fiancé ran to their home and brought towels so that they could wrap the dog in them.
The kind people rushed the dog, later named Scrappy, to the ER.
The vet examined the doggo and informed the couple that apart from the dog’s head injury, he also had some neurological issues.
Since Scrappy was a stray, the couple had a difficult decision to make. They had to choose between taking ownership of the dog or signing over his rights to the vet, who would then treat him.
At first, the couple wanted to take care of Scrappy themselves, but since the estimated cost of his care was between $20,000 and $50,000 – a sum that they couldn’t afford, they surrendered him into the vet’s care.
Hoping To Reunite With Scrappy

Tonn shared the video of the rescue on TikTok, hoping that she would find out who Scrappy’s owner was and report him to the authorities.
The clip went viral.
While the majority of people praised Tonn for saving Scrappy’s life, there were others who criticized her for signing him over to the vet.
They said that Scrappy would be euthanized because his case was difficult.
The kind-hearted woman dismissed such comments, saying that she didn’t believe it to be true.
Tonn and her fiancé haven’t forgotten about Scrappy, and they hope to reunite with him.
Since they have no legal obligation to get updates about him, they don’t know how he is doing. They assume that he will be transferred to Animal Care Centers of NYC or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) if he recovers.
They will keep checking the New York shelters’ websites in hopes of seeing Scrappy and taking him home in order to foster him.
I hope that the senior dog will recover and get a second chance at happiness.
Thank you very much to Hunter Tonn and her fiancé for stepping in to save Scrappy’s life.
