Driving down a busy highway, most people don’t expect to come across an animal running alongside traffic. But that’s exactly what happened to Elle Worley, who lives in Nebraska.
One day, she spotted a small Beagle trotting near the edge of the road. She didn’t hesitate to pull over, get out of her car, and approach the pup. That’s when she realized something was terribly wrong: the Beagle was bleeding from the mouth.
Elle acted quickly and rushed the dog to a veterinary clinic, hoping the injury wasn’t serious. But what the vet discovered left her completely shaken.
A Diagnosis That Left Everyone Speechless
When Elle reached the Beagle, who was later named Juni, her heart broke on the spot.
Not only was the dog bleeding, but she was clearly underweight and emotionally shut down. She barely responded, though she seemed grateful for Elle’s help.
“She was alone, extremely malnourished, and bleeding from the mouth. I wasn’t sure if she had been dumped, jumped from a vehicle, or had gotten lost—but it was immediately clear she needed urgent help,” Elle wrote on the Spotfund platform.
After gently placing Juni in her car, Elle took her straight to the veterinarian. But the news she got there was worse than she had imagined.
According to the vet in Nebraska, Juni had been shot twice in the jaw. The bullets had narrowly missed her brain by only a few inches. Elle struggled to process the cruelty behind the injury. She understood Juni needed immediate care, and time was running out.
In addition to pain medication, Juni required urgent surgery to reconstruct her jaw.
Elle set up a fundraiser, hoping to raise money to cover Juni’s medical bills. She also shared Juni’s story on social media, and within days, her posts spread rapidly.
Support poured in from people across the country who were touched by Juni’s story and wanted to help. In a matter of days, the Beagle who had once been all alone now had the backing of an entire community.
With the funds raised and the support of her rescuer, Juni soon underwent a successful surgery.
By the beginning of her second week with Elle and her family, Juni was already showing signs of improvement.
She began taking interest in Elle’s two Golden Retrievers, Copper and Penny, and started engaging with them. Watching her enjoy life again after such pain was incredibly rewarding.
“Copper and Penny have been absolutely amazing—so gentle and loving with Juni. I truly couldn’t have asked for a better dogs,” Elle wrote in the post.
Justice For Juni
Elle didn’t stop at helping Juni recover physically. She also launched efforts to make sure whoever did this would be held responsible.
With support from the people who had followed Juni’s story, Elle started a campaign titled “Justice for Juni,” calling for felony charges against whoever hurt the dog.
While justice efforts moved forward, Elle stayed focused on helping Juni heal.
She decided to officially adopt the Beagle, welcoming her permanently into the family alongside Copper and Penny.
Now, Juni doesn’t have to be afraid anymore. She’s protected, cared for, and surrounded by love.
“She has found her forever home and is safe, loved, and healing every day,” Elle concluded in a Facebook post.
