Most of us think that the life of a puppy is the best thing ever.
Not only are they extremely adorable, but they are also taken care of 24/7. Their moms make sure that they are clean and fed, while their two-legged friends make sure they have everything they could possibly need.
This also includes tons of love and attention.
Unfortunately, this isn’t always the case.
Many puppies are born in quite heartbreaking conditions that force them to fend for themselves since they are cast out by a person who no longer wants them. The pup of today’s story knows all about this.
Born A Bit Different
A little puppy, now named Trip, was born a little bit differently.
He had what is called a chicken leg – an angular limb deformity that was most likely caused by atypical bone growth due to rapid growth, damage, or injury to the dog’s bony growth plate.
Because of this, Trip’s breeder deemed him unsellable so they decided to euthanize the poor pup.
After a local rescue picked him up, they took the pup over to an animal hospital where an incredible woman named Lydia worked. Knowing that this adorable fellow had a magical life in front of him, they decided not to continue with euthanization.
“Our team decided that amputation would be the best course of action for him. I was the one that recovered him from anesthesia and he came home with me then because I couldn’t let him go anywhere else,” Lydia told We Love Animals.
It took only a couple of moments for the two to absolutely fall in love with each other. So, it came as no surprise when Lydia decided to adopt Trip.
The Start Of Something New
At the time, Lydia was an intern at a New Jersey company, 3D Pets, that designs and builds mobility devices custom fit to pets and their needs.
“Once Trip had recovered from his surgery, we brought him into our office where we used our scanner to kind of move around him and capture his body. We were able to create a jacket that was entirely custom to him, for his prophets,” she added.
At first, it wasn’t really easy to convince Trip to use his device as he preferred to roll around the floor all the time.
Luckily, his loving family figured out that if they use a tennis ball to play with him, they could get him moving and ultimately use his prosthetic paw.
When Trip was a fully-grown pup, Lydia got him the final prosthetic that allowed him to take his very first walk.
“Before that, I would only bring him around in a wagon because he would get too tired and couldn’t keep up with the other dogs. And then once he got his prosthesis, he was able to come with me and we went on hikes,” she stated.
Ever since then, this sweet boy has been living a happy and active life. He adores spending time in the dog park, running around, and playing with his furry friends.
And, none of this would be possible if it wasn’t for Lydia and 3D Pets, a company she is now the director of.
Not only was she able to provide Trip with the life he always wanted, but she also gave that to any other animal who needs some help walking on all fours.
