Benny is one of those dogs who just didn’t get dealt the right cards in life: no warm, loving home, no secure future, and no endless days of carefree play.
Instead, he wound up in a California shelter, facing the unthinkable, being put down. The reason? He had paralyzed hind legs, and his family chose to surrender him.
Despite his sweet nature, Benny was constantly passed over. He sat in his small kennel, overlooked, waiting.
But then, a woman came along. Not only did she look beyond his struggles, but she also discovered something truly extraordinary.
It Was A Stunning Discovery

Benny’s disability wasn’t his fault. The little pup had been born with two fused discs in his spine, leaving him unable to properly use his back legs. Because of this, he was given up and scheduled for euthanasia.
When Abby first saw his photo, sitting alone in a kennel awaiting his fate, she knew she couldn’t turn away.
“He was gonna be put to sleep if no one adopted him,” Abby told GeoBeats Animals.

With help from a Nevada rescue group, Abby managed to get him pulled from the shelter.
Volunteers even arranged for him to be flown from California to Nevada. Before long, Benny was stepping into Abby’s home and meeting his new furry friends.
“When I got him, he warmed up immediately. He also warmed up to my other dogs. He instantly wanted to play, and then slowly he just started walking and balancing on his hind legs,” Abby added.
Benny quickly settled into his foster home, bonding with the family and the other dogs. Then came the biggest surprise of all… he started walking!

When Abby saw him take those first steps on his own, she couldn’t believe it.
All this time, Benny hadn’t realized he could use his legs, and now he was running, balancing, and living freely.
Little by little, the dog who was once labeled as paralyzed was running zoomies, leaping, and playing joyfully with his friends.
Watching him blossom from a frightened pup into a spirited, active dog was beyond rewarding for Abby.
New Chance, New Life, New Friends

Adopting Benny turned out to be one of the best choices Abby ever made.
This shepherd-like boy is gentle, affectionate, and wonderfully well-mannered. He’s now thriving in ways nobody imagined possible.
Recently, he even started attending doggy daycare, and the staff couldn’t stop praising him.
“He is so kind and gentle to other dogs that I’m told that the daycare uses him as an introductory dog to the daycare,” says Abby.
Today, Benny enjoys every moment of his life. Best of all, he has a new best friend: Watson, another special-needs pup who looks up to him as a role model.
Benny’s progress inspires Watson, who follows him around, plays with him, and is slowly learning how to walk by watching his older brother.
From being a dog scheduled for euthanasia to becoming a happy, thriving pup and a guiding light for another. Benny’s journey is nothing short of amazing.
And it’s all thanks to one woman who refused to give up on him.
