Ohio Woman Reunites With The Shelter Dog She Fostered Years Ago In A Stunning Twist Of Fate

Dogs are often called man’s best friends for good reason. Their loyalty and devotion make it nearly impossible not to love them deeply.

That is why parting with dogs who leave a mark on our hearts can be so painful. Yet sometimes, it is the only possible choice, as one woman from Ohio who opened her home to many foster dogs understood well.

She had grown used to letting go, no matter how much she cared for them. Still, there was one dog who stayed in her thoughts for years afterward.

Fate would eventually lead to a reunion neither she nor the dog could have imagined.

During the pandemic, when her home was quiet without children or pets, Katelyn began fostering dogs in need of care.

She loved welcoming each pup, but one in particular changed everything. A shelter in Omaha, Nebraska, the Nebraska Humane Society, placed an American Bully and Labrador mix named Nacho with her.

Katelyn built an extraordinary connection with Nacho. They spent their days walking, playing, cuddling, and even sharing the same bed.

She recorded their joyful moments and later sent a video to the humane society.

After the shelter shared the video, one family instantly fell in love with Nacho and chose to adopt him.

Although saying goodbye to her favorite foster was heartbreaking, Katelyn found comfort knowing he had secured a forever home.

Years went by, and Katelyn no longer knew where Nacho was or how he was doing. Yet she thought of him constantly, believing he was her true canine soulmate.

Years later, Katelyn was grieving the loss of her senior dog, Cash, who had passed away after illness.

In those painful days, Nacho’s memory often came back to her. Then, she received a call from a friend with shocking news. Nacho had been returned to the same shelter where she first met him.

Her sorrow quickly shifted to joy. Katelyn knew exactly what she needed to do. Without hesitation, she decided not to foster him again but to finally give him a permanent home.

The day they met again was one of the happiest moments of their lives. A video captured them embracing, proof of a bond that time had never broken. Katelyn shared the reunion on TikTok, leaving no doubt about the depth of their love.

Reintroducing Nacho – an adoption story 4.5 years in the making ✨ When COVID hit in early 2020, I decided to start fostering dogs. I met the behavior team at Nebraska Humane Society and for some reason unbeknownst to me, they entrusted me with fostering diamond dogs 😅 aka diamonds in the rough aka pups with a variety of behavior issues. My first two fosters got adopted quickly. Then I picked up this white-and-black-spotted-blue-eyed-strong-boy named Nacho as my third foster. Somewhere between the bruises he gave me, counters he surfed, bottles of wine he made me drink, and training tip phone calls with NHS behavior team, I fell in love with the little mans. As much as I wanted to adopt, I knew I was a few weeks away from bringing Cash home and I couldn’t fathom owning two large breed dogs at once. Three months into fostering, Nacho was adopted out and for the next four years I wondered about him often. I moved back to Ohio and in June of this year, Cash expectedly passed due to a ruptured tumor. It was rough and I miss her (still). I knew I couldn’t adopt again until it felt right. Fast forward to a week ago, I received a DM from a friend who noticed Nacho (now Raiden) back on NHS’s website. His second stint at NHS was approx 6 weeks as an unclaimed stray and it took me approx 2 seconds after seeing updated photos to know I had to drive back to Nebraska for him. So that’s what I did on Friday. He has been re-named back to Nacho, and is settling in so nicely like the king he is 👑 S/o to everyone who helped make this happen, especially Erica Young for fostering him this week until I could drive out there, @lindsey_anson for driving him halfway to Ohio to meet me, my dad for driving with me to get him. And, of course, Cash Girl because without her I truly don’t think all these pieces would have fallen into place ♥️ #dogreunion #adoptdontshop #rescuedog #nacho #columbus #ohio #omaha #nebraska #humanesociety #nhs #nebraskahumanesociety #columbusdogs #reunited

After all those years, fate brought them back together. Perhaps the truth is they were never truly apart.
“Welcome home, Nacho ❤️,” Katelyn wrote at the end of this touching video.
