Florida Woman Rescues A Pregnant Dog From A High-Risk Shelter And Gets An Unexpected Surprise

Florida Woman Rescues A Pregnant Dog From A High-Risk Shelter And Gets An Unexpected Surprise

Rebecca Lynch and her husband, Kevin, were wrapping up a trip to Savannah, Georgia, when Rebecca suggested making one last stop before heading home.

Instead of a tourist site or a restaurant, she wanted to visit a local shelter with the intention of rescuing the dog who needed help the most.

That spontaneous decision would change their lives forever.

Meeting The Dog Who Needed Saving Most

At the shelter, staff introduced them to Lizzy, a young terrier who was in heartbreaking condition. She was pregnant, battling heartworm, and had a broken leg.

To make matters worse, she was on the euthanasia list.

Rebecca and Kevin couldn’t leave her behind. Within hours, Lizzy was on her way to Florida with them, safe at last.

They prepared a cozy spot for her in the back of their car, with a blanket and a soft bed. Rebecca sat close by, gently petting Lizzy to keep her calm.

“I knew she was nervous and scared, and I just wanted to comfort her on the ride,” Rebecca told The Dodo. They placed a bed and a blanket for her at the back of their car, and Rebecca sat next to her, petting her softly.

What Rebecca didn’t know was that their new passenger had her own timeline for what would happen next.

About an hour into the drive, Lizzy suddenly went into labor.

Puppies On The Way

Rebecca instantly switched into midwife mode, helping Lizzy through the process. Within no time, three tiny puppies had been born right there in the car.

“She was a pro! We went straight to the vet, and they said everything looked good,” Rebecca recalled.

But Lizzy wasn’t finished yet.

She delivered another puppy at the clinic, and then two more during the rest of the journey. By the time they arrived in Orlando, six healthy little lives had entered the world.

Despite all the hardships she had endured — abandonment, illness, and injury — Lizzy amazed everyone with her sweet, trusting nature.

“Lizzy is a doll. Bless her heart, with all that she’s been through in her short life, she is so loving and trusting. She is a gentle and loving soul. Pretty remarkable,” Rebecca said.

The couple fostered Lizzy and her puppies, giving them all the care they needed until the pups were old enough for adoption. Each one eventually found a wonderful forever home, where they are adored and spoiled.

While her puppies moved on to new families, Lizzy stayed right where she belonged: with the Lynches.

“Lizzy stayed put, of course. She’s a Lynch, and we love her to pieces. She and our Poodle, Cooper, are best pals, and she has really taken a liking to our 4 yr old niece, Lilly, they have a special friendship 🥰,” Rebecca wrote in her Facebook post

Although Lizzy’s leg eventually had to be amputated, she is now thriving as a beloved family dog, enjoying a life full of love, comfort, and companionship.
