Texas Woman Rescued A Blind Puppy Walking In Circles And Uncovered What Was Really Wrong

Out of all the careers out there, being involved in dog rescue has to be one of the most emotionally challenging.

The range of heartbreaking situations rescuers face daily can be a lot to handle, especially in shelters that are already beyond capacity.

Many dogs arrive in poor condition and need urgent medical attention to have any hope of recovery. It’s hard to imagine the stress they’re under.

Still, it remains one of the most meaningful jobs. Despite the emotional toll, countless people devote themselves to helping animals in need because they believe it’s worth every effort.

There’s truly nothing more rewarding than giving a lost pup the second chance it deserves. And that brings us to today’s story.

Struggling With Blindness

Even though Jolie was just 10 weeks old, she had already been surviving alone on the streets of Texas and she was completely blind, battling multiple health concerns.

Without her vision, she often moved in circles and repeatedly bumped into objects around her.

That’s when a volunteer from East Texas Hoof and Paw Animal Rescue came across her and knew right away that she needed urgent care. The rescuer quickly stepped in to help.

Jolie was immediately taken to a vet clinic, where she underwent testing. The results pointed to distemper, a condition that affects the nervous system.

The vets, however, believed there could be more to her condition. They suspected head trauma or possible drug exposure might also be playing a role.

At the time, there was no clear way to confirm the exact cause, so the team focused on treatment and observation as she started to recover.

They remained committed to figuring out what was truly happening, but their first priority was making sure Jolie had a safe space to heal.

Thanks to her rescuer, Jolie was placed in short-term care where she could finally rest and feel safe. That alone made a huge difference.

She probably hadn’t known comfort or kindness before, so simply feeling secure was a big step for her.

Even though the vets couldn’t pinpoint a precise diagnosis right away, they remained hopeful. And not long after, something incredible happened: Jolie began showing major signs of improvement.

Her vision returned, and she no longer circled aimlessly. That, by far, was the most wonderful surprise.

The team now believes her blindness may have been caused by head trauma and reversed as her body healed.

Better yet, distemper was ruled out entirely, which was a huge relief. That meant Jolie was ready to be placed with a foster family while she waited for a forever home.

She soon met her foster siblings and started the next chapter of her life. Everyone who helped her is thrilled with her progress. Jolie is now on the path she always deserved.

Potential Head Trauma & Exposure To Dr*gs Leaves 10-Week-Old Puppy Desperately Running In Circles… At less than three months old, tiny puppy Jolie was found blind, disoriented, and endlessly walking in circles. In a quiet neighborhood near Houston, TX, a kind-hearted rescue volunteer stumbled upon this little girl. She was alone, running into things and falling repeatedly. The volunteer quickly rushed Jolie to the emergency vet, knowing something was terribly wrong. Initial investigations suggested Distemper, a common cause of neurological symptoms in puppies. However, the vet also believes that she may have been exposed to dr*gs. Given that she is also blind, head trauma has not been ruled out as a possible cause. At this time, we don’t know enough to draw a definitive conclusion. Almost 24 hours and $1,500 in life-saving care later, this little girl’s case is still a mystery. We transferred Jolie to Vergi 24/7 in Katy, TX, our trusted vet partner. She is being kept warm and fed, and vet staff are monitoring her closely while we determine next steps. Extensive diagnostic testing is being conducted, but we have run into several delays due to the recent holiday weekend. Hopefully, we will know more soon. Until then, we are doing our best keep Jolie comfortable and prepare for every possible outcome. You can join Jolie’s journey to recovery by contributing to her medical fund or donating any items from her wish list of essential supplies. We will be sure to provide an update when we learn more. Thank you for your compassion and generosity.
