California Woman Races To Save Injured Pup, But Fate Has Other Plans

Whenever I think about the hardest moments in dog rescue, one thought always comes to mind: You have to hand it to those big-hearted volunteers.

They see devastating scenes every single day, yet somehow find the strength to keep helping.

Suzette Hall, a dedicated rescuer from California, knows that feeling better than anyone. After countless heartbreaks, she still pushes forward, always ready to save another life.

But some days cut deeper than others: days you wish you could erase.

This was one of those days.

He Wept The Entire Ride

When Hall, the founder of Logan’s Legacy in Irvine, California, got a call about Nesquik, a small dog struck by a car, she didn’t waste a second. She raced to the scene.

What she saw when she arrived shattered her heart.

“He was hit by a car and the lady kept going. He rolled 7 times. When I picked him up I held him in my lap and he cried the whole way to my vet,” Hall wrote on Facebook.

Knowing every minute mattered, she fought through the shock and sped him straight to the hospital.

The diagnosis was grim. Nesquik’s pelvis was broken, and he was in excruciating pain. Vets immediately put him on IV fluids and pain medication, but surgery was his only real chance.

For several days, Hall and her team waited, watching for signs of improvement. Finally, hope appeared.

Nesquik managed to sit up on his own. He ate with appetite, and most importantly, he reacted when his legs were pinched, a sign that paralysis hadn’t set in.

“His swelling has come down. He has been on fluids and anti-inflammatories. He is able to sit up now. This sweet baby will have his surgery Friday morning. We believe in miracles,” Hall wrote in one of her last Facebook posts.

No one knew the worst was still coming.

A Heartbreaking Ending

The surgery went ahead, and the team repaired his shattered pelvis. But despite their best efforts, Nesquik’s tiny body just couldn’t cope.

Infection spread through his organs, and after everything he’d endured, there was no way to save him.

“We were able to repair his shattered pelvis and all the damage the car did to his body, but the infection was more than medicine could treat,” Hall stated.

After giving everything to keep him alive, Nesquik slipped away. His injuries were more severe than anyone imagined.

He crossed the rainbow bridge, leaving the entire team heartbroken.

His passing was devastating. A helpless little dog lost his life for no reason at all, when he still had so much love to give.

Nesquik’s story is a harsh reminder of how many dogs live on the edge every day, at risk of tragedy through no fault of their own.

Though his life was cut short, he won’t be forgotten. His rescuers fought for him until the very end, and his memory will live on.

“We love you. We wanted more for you. We gave all we had for you and your little body said: ‘Enough is Enough.’ Thank you for fighting for it. We will not forget you,” Hall added in the end.

Rest in peace, sweet boy. You’ll always stay in our hearts.
