Before abandoning a dog, heartless people rarely stop to think about the fear, confusion, and sadness their actions cause.
Roxy, a tiny white puppy just eight weeks old, learned this in the harshest way possible.
Her owners placed her in a cardboard box and left her behind. The little pup had no idea what was happening — she curled into a small ball, unsure what to expect next.
Scared and bewildered, Roxy could only hope that someone kind would come along, scoop her up, and let her know everything would be okay.
A New Chapter For The Little Pup
It was an ordinary day for a Pennsylvania resident until they noticed an unusual cardboard box sitting outside their home — with a message written on it.
“The caller reported there was a box in front of their home labeled ‘free puppy,’” Sara Hornbeck, the director of East Coast Bulldog Rescue, told The Dodo.
The Good Samaritan peeked inside and found the most adorable pair of puppy eyes gazing back at them.
As soon as Roxy spotted the kind face, she seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. Somehow, she knew she was finally safe.
The resident quickly contacted Animal Control and explained that someone had abandoned a puppy outside their home. Officers arrived promptly, picked Roxy up, and brought her to the shelter.
Roxy’s Fresh Start
When East Coast Bulldog Rescue, — a volunteer-run organization based in Pittsburgh — heard about the little pup, they didn’t hesitate to take her in.
The rescuers were instantly charmed when they met her.
She was gentle, affectionate, and full of sweetness — making it hard to believe anyone could leave her behind.
“Once we picked her up from the animal control kennel, we quickly discovered she was the sweetest, most lovable girl and was surprisingly in good shape for a puppy that had been discarded like trash,” Hornbeck added.
During her freedom ride, Roxy was a little unsure at first, but soon relaxed as her rescuers showered her with kindness.
Once she arrived at the rescue, the team quickly fell in love with her and shared her story on social media.
A Forever Home Found
It didn’t take long before Roxy’s happy ending came along.
A woman who had recently lost her beloved Pittie, Junie Bug, happened to see Roxy’s post — and instantly felt a connection. She knew she wanted to give the little pup a loving home.
The woman also thought Roxy would be the perfect companion for her other dog, Murphy, who had been feeling lonely.
And just like that, Roxy’s life changed forever. She now spends her days safe, adored, and surrounded by love in her new home — right where she belongs.
