Ohio Woman Noticed Her Service Dog Was Staring At Her, And Then She Realized What Was Going On

Having a trained dog can really teach you something special about dogs, and it’s just how smart and sensitive they are.

More often than not, we underestimate their intelligence, but they can do some things so much better than we can because of their heightened senses.

In some instances, we need machinery, but dogs don’t need anything to detect problems. They are just brilliant in every way, and we take that for granted.

When this family from Ohio first adopted their dog, Kona, it was for a shocking reason, and that is something that we will talk about today.

He Is A Very Good Boy

Kona is a very smart dog, and one of the reasons his owners adopted him was so that he could warn them about their daughter’s blood sugar levels, either getting too low or too high.

Lindsey Berce’s daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, and she is only six years old, so the family thought this was a necessary step to help her.

Kona was also trained for things like this, so he was the perfect dog for the family. Aside from being trained to help them, he was also an amazing addition to the family.

He was a very disciplined pup, and he got along great with anybody. He would always watch Lindsey’s daughter, even though it was not always necessary. Usually, he warned them by placing a paw on her leg.

At one point, he noticed that something was off, so he went to Lindsey and started staring at her. For a moment, she was puzzled by this, only to realize what was going on.

He was trying to tell her that her daughter’s blood sugar levels were changing, and he was waiting for a response from her parents.

Fortunately, nothing serious happened at that exact moment, but they were happy to see how disciplined the dog was and how he took his job seriously.

Lindsey’s daughter is wearing a glucose monitor that displays all the necessary information for them, but Kona is a lot faster than the machine.

Wholesome Reaction

The Ohio family also has a TikTok page where she likes to post things about her life and Kona on occasion, so she couldn’t resist uploading this educational moment after recording it.

The video gained over a million views, and the number is rising. Many people were shocked to see that dogs are actually good at this, and I am not surprised.

One person commented: “I’m a T1, and this just blows my mind. I had a really bad low one time and my cat appeared and sat right in my face until it came back up.

See, I had no idea that cats can also be sensitive to something like this, but you learn something new every day.

Another person said: “Me: cheese isn’t a great choice for low blood sugar… ohhhh it’s a GREAT choice for the blood sugar alert system!!

Yeah, well, a good boy like Kona deserves a treat every once in a while for all the great work he is doing for his family, and I think that’s adorable.

Lastly, somebody commented: “Has Kona ever detected another diabetic with low blood sugar.

And, Lindsey responded to this by saying that he is indeed capable of this and has done so on a few occasions, so that’s great to know.

As we can see from this, Kona is a very attentive and kind dog who just loves helping out his family, and they are absolutely lucky to have him.
