Michigan Woman Never Expected Her Dog To React This Way To A Blind Pup

Dogs have a lot of love to give not only to their humans, but to other dogs, too.

Their hearts are full of empathy, and they recognize when someone needs more support and affection.

Nugget was such a dog. She lived a happy life with her family in Michigan.

One day, her parents adopted a blind pup named Bubbles and brought him home.

Bubbles needed compassion and help more than ever before.

When Nugget and Bubbles met, something wonderful happened.

A Strong Start For Nugget

Stacie Elliott brought Nugget home when she was just a newborn. The pup had a rough start in life. She had swimmer puppy syndrome, and it was difficult for her to stand or walk.

“Her back leg muscles didn’t develop so we had to do lots of physical therapy to teach her how to walk,” Elliott said in an interview.

However, Nugget didn’t give up. She kept trying until she eventually learned how to walk.

Once she gained strength and confidence, Nugget enjoyed life to the fullest.

She loved being close to her family. By six months old, she seemed happy being the only dog in the household. Little did she know that her family would soon grow.

Elliott’s life changed again in 2021 when she learned about Bubbles, a blind beagle who lived in Michigan. He had spent his early life as a hunting dog, but due to his vision loss, he couldn’t keep up with the pack.

His owner shared a Facebook post hoping someone would take him in.

The moment Elliott heard of Bubbles’ story, she decided to lend him a helping hand.

“I don’t know why but I was drawn to him,” she said. “My plan was to get him treated and rehome him.”

As soon as Bubbles arrived at her home, Elliot realized that he belonged in her home, and she gave up her plan of rehoming him.

“He was Nugget’s buddy as soon as he walked through the door,” Elliott said. “We couldn’t imagine life without him.”

At first, Bubbles was nervous and timid in his new home.

Nugget noticed it immediately and offered him her help and support. She was with him all the time and refused to let him out of her sight.

“I always tell people she has more empathy and compassion than most humans,” Elliot added.

A Strong Bond

Since Nugget was with him, Bubbles began feeling more confident.

“He doesn’t go far without her,” Elliott said. “When he goes outside he always waits for her to lead the way.”

On the other hand, Nugget seemed proud of her role. She knew how much Bubbles needed her.

The two friends feel more connected than ever. They enjoy playtime and going on car rides.

Elliott sees how deeply the bond shaped them.

“I do not think Bubbles would be where he is without her. He definitely relies on her for a lot and when she’s not there it’s me,” she said.

Nugget, who was once the puppy who needed help herself, found confidence in guiding another pup.

Nugget and Bubbles found comfort and built a life that made sense together.
