For a South Bend woman, an ordinary dog walk around the city’s southeast side turned into a big surprise when she came across a mysterious box in a dark alleyway.
Upon inspection, she learned that the cardboard box was full of sweet baby animals who needed help.
The kind woman reached out to the South Bend Police Department, asking for assistance. The police officers, Kurz and Taborn, responded to the call and rushed to investigate the matter and bring the animals to safety.
The Officers Were Shocked

The Good Samaritan wanted to make sure that the babies would be alright, so she waited with them until the help arrived.
Once the police officers reached the scene, the woman showed them the way through the dark alleyway and led them to the box.
As Kurz and Taborn rushed to open it, they heard meows coming from the inside. When they opened the box, the officers were in disbelief.

There were fifteen cats huddled in the box.
“Oh, wow, there [are] a lot of them in here!” one officer said in a video taken at the time.
They weren’t scared and were in fact relieved to see the good humans.

“The cats were not overly fearful. They did not run away when police officers opened the box,” Ashley O’Chap, director of communications at the South Bend Police Department, told The Dodo.
The officers collected them and loaded them into the car.
The cats wholeheartedly accepted their help. They were grateful to the officers because they wouldn’t need to spend the night, cowering in a box, hungry and helpless.
The cats were transported to the South Bend Animal Resource Center.
Receiving Love And Care

Upon arriving at the rescue, the staff examined the cats and began showering them with affection.
The cats seemed to know that they were safe. They soaked up their caregivers’ love and began to recover from the ordeal.
Thanks to the good people, the cats will soon start the happiest chapters of their lives.
As soon as they make a full recovery, the Indiana rescue will help them find forever homes where they’ll receive all the love they deserve.
They will never have to worry that they will end up abandoned and rejected.
With time, they will forget the dark alleyway that used to be their home and they will focus on their new lives.
We can’t wait for the cats to get adopted and to discover the beauty of life.
Many thanks to the Good Samaritan who found them and made sure they received the help they desperately needed.
