After finishing a workday, Arleth Martinez returned to her Baytown, Texas, home and found a heartbreaking sight.
A small white puppy was trying to curl up and find comfort in a trash can filled with garbage, doing her best to stay warm.
Once the pup, later named Milly, saw Martinez getting closer, she looked up with a sorrowful expression.
Martinez’s heart sank. She guessed the puppy had been abandoned and could only imagine how much pain she felt.
Offering Milly Kindness

Though Milly had been deserted and let down by someone she once trusted, she immediately placed her faith in Martinez. Her new friend could sense that she was yearning for affection.
As Martinez pondered how best to help, she noticed a neighbor hurling ice at Milly, clearly trying to scare her away.
That act crushed and infuriated Martinez. She brought the frightened pup into her home, promising she would be safe from now on.
The compassionate woman posted Milly’s photo online, hoping someone might offer the home Milly so urgently needed.
Three Little Pitties Rescue, based in Houston, Texas, saw Martinez’s post and felt moved to intervene.
They picked Milly up and brought her to a vet clinic where she received a full checkup and care.
Along with being dewormed, she was given preventative treatments for heartworms and fleas. Milly was believed to be around five months old.
Her caretakers assured her she was in good hands. Thanks to their efforts, Milly started to feel more at ease.
Looking For Her Forever Family

The rescue later placed her with a loving foster. Because of the attention and kindness her foster family gave her, Milly’s true personality began to shine.
She enjoyed her toys, but what she loved most was cuddling with her fosters.
“Milly is a very gentle player that appreciates treats and cuddles. She will let you know with a gentle paw that she also enjoys belly rubs and chest scratches. And ear scratches…” the rescue wrote in her adoption profile.
Even though she’s happy in her foster home, Milly still hopes to find her permanent family.

Her friends at the rescue are confident that she’ll be the perfect furry friend for the right home.
She’s social and greets everyone she encounters.
“Strangers? What are those? To Milly, everybody is a new best buddy, capable of delivering pets and love,” the rescue added.
Milly dreams of the day she finally meets her forever family, one that will give her the boundless affection she longs for.
Until that day comes, her foster continues showering her with care and love.
Milly feels safe now, knowing she’ll never again have to curl up in the garbage and hope someone will save her.
Here’s hoping Milly soon finds the people who will give her the beautiful life she deserves.
