Georgia Woman Breaks Down After Housing Rule Forces Her To Surrender Beloved Pit Bull

There are many reasons someone might have to give up their dog — and not all stem from neglect or irresponsibility.

Life can throw unexpected challenges. Financial hardship, medical conditions, or allergies can make caring for a pet impossible. And sometimes, the reasons are so unusual they leave even devoted dog lovers stunned.

That’s what happened to one woman in Georgia, who was devastated when she had to surrender her beloved Pit Bull due to a housing restriction that few could believe.

When Megan Frayer first brought Beauty into her life, she envisioned years of happiness together.

Beauty, a six-year-old dog full of affection and energy, had originally come to Megan as a foster. But it didn’t take long for Megan to realize that this gentle, loving pup was meant to stay.

Beauty quickly proved to be one of the most well-behaved and kind-hearted dogs Megan had ever known. But everything changed when Megan discovered her Georgia apartment complex had a strict ban on Pit Bulls, and many residents held negative views about the breed.

Despite Beauty’s sweet nature and training, Megan was told she couldn’t keep her.

She tried to find a way around it. One option was registering Beauty as an emotional support animal, which can sometimes override breed restrictions in housing.

She even considered hiding Beauty, but her roommates were concerned about the risks and feared the consequences.

Oh her eyes! She was the sweetest dog I have ever met! I hate that pitbulls are not allowed at apartments when they are the sweetest dogs out there! #pitbull #dogshelter

Feeling hopeless, Megan turned to TikTok to share her story. Her video struck a chord, and thousands of viewers responded with support and advice on how she might be able to keep Beauty.

One commenter suggested: “Go back and get her. You can go online and have her registered as an emotional support dog in minutes. No housing cannot deny you after that. I’ve done this with my GSD in many places and states.”

While the process may vary depending on location, it was a path worth exploring and Megan’s followers were eager to help her pursue it.

Another person urged:

“Omg don’t. Is moving not an option? Start a gofundme if you have to… she will be heartbroken & may not even make it out alive.”

Of course, moving isn’t always feasible. Megan may have wanted to, but real-life circumstances often make such decisions difficult. It’s important to acknowledge that sometimes, even the most determined efforts face limitations.

Another TikToker added: “File her as an ESA!! depending what state you live in you can get her registered relatively fast… I have a Malinois Great Dane mix and this is what I do for my complex! I hope this helps!”

If registering Beauty as an emotional support animal can truly change the outcome, it may be the key to reuniting them.

It’s heartbreaking to think their connection could be severed by outdated policies or lingering stigma. With hope and persistence, Megan may yet find a way to keep Beauty close, exactly where she belongs.
