At the end of the day, how much does a dog’s breed really matter? Sure, it might influence your decision in the beginning, especially if you have a certain preference in mind.
But then you fall in love, and all of that fades into the background. He’s the best boy, and that becomes the only trait that truly matters.
Still, it can be fun to confirm your dog’s ancestry, especially if you have doubts or have never run a DNA test before.
Alexus Bird, a woman from New Jersey, recently decided to look into her Labrador mix’s background. What she learned from the results caught her completely off guard.
Not the Breed She Expected

Kona, once named Camper, was just a tiny pup when he first met Alexus, his soon-to-be mom. He was adopted from a New Jersey rescue group and believed to be a black Labrador mix whose mother might have been a Golden Retriever.
By the time Kona was six months old, weighing 35 pounds, he didn’t quite match the Labrador image. His coat was longer, and he seemed a bit larger than expected for his age, which made Alexus and her family start to wonder.
They decided to get a DNA test for Kona, and the results were nothing like they imagined.

“I can guarantee no one will get it 100% right,” Alexus wrote in a TikTok video.
It turned out Kona wasn’t a Labrador mix at all. He was primarily Golden Retriever (over fifty percent), with traces of Siberian Husky, American Bully, and American Pit Bull Terrier.
Kona’s unexpected ancestry quickly became a talking point. The TikTok video Alexus posted went viral, and the comments poured in with sweet and funny reactions.
“As a vet student, I can confirm his breed is Very Good Boy,” one commenter wrote.
“Hmm according to my calculations he is 100% baby,” another added.
“Idk what he is but I love how he lets you flip him around and is still a puppy, that dog has got the best manners I’ve ever seen from a puppy,” the third commented.
Even though Kona turned out to be the opposite of a Labrador, nobody cared, least of all his mom. For her, he was still the same lovable boy she had fallen for.
A Gentle Giant at Heart

One thing is certain: Kona is the definition of a loving companion. He’s basically a big, fluffy cuddlebug, which only makes him more adorable.
He enjoys meeting new people and dogs, loves curling up for snuggles with his family, and is the perfect partner for walks.
When he’s not puzzling people with his true breed, Kona is simply soaking up time with the ones he loves, living his happiest life. And who knows, as he grows, maybe he’ll surprise everyone again in a whole new way.
