Patricia, a photographer living in Arizona, assumed the tiny Yorkie she brought home seven years ago would keep the deep tones she had as a puppy. What happened instead left her stunned.
Bit by bit, Chanel’s dark fur lightened, softened, and eventually transformed her into a dog that looked completely different from the one Patricia first carried through the door.
Patricia later shared a TikTok video showing the gradual shift in Chanel’s coloring, and the clip quickly took off.
“I had no idea that Yorkies could change colors like that once they’ve grown out of their puppy hair. And to think I almost named her Boba,” the video text reads.
Today, years after that first day together, Chanel has grown into a beautiful dog with flowing, silky hair that gives no hint of the black coat she started with.

Age has brought a slower pace and cataracts, and she now spends much of her time tucked into her dad’s lap or relaxing quietly with her dog sibling, Louie.
“Now she’s attached to my boyfriend’s hip, can barely see bc of her cataracts but still is just the most loving baby ever. I just want her to know that I am going to continue to give her the most fulfilling life possible bc she’s changed my life for the better,” Patricia shared in her post.
Her coat may have shifted completely from what it once was, but the affection she shares with her family has stayed constant.
Her transformation has only added another layer to the charm she has carried all along.
