New York Woman Acts Fast When She Finds Injured Dog Tied Up And Left In Trash Bag

One evening in Brooklyn, New York, Hunter Tonn and her fiancé were walking home after dinner when they suddenly heard faint whimpering coming from a nearby trash bag. Concerned, they followed the sound to investigate.

Tonn picked up the bag, unsettled by what she heard inside. When she opened it, she found a second bag tucked within. Something was moving, but nothing came out. Carefully, the couple cut it open to uncover the source of the noise.

What they found was devastating. Inside was an older dog, seriously injured and covered in urine, struggling to stay alive. Whoever had placed him there had left him to suffer alone.

Determined to help, Tonn and her fiancé carried the poor dog home and did their best to clean him. But moments later, the pup, soon named Scrappy, began having seizures.

Tonn’s fiancé rushed back inside to grab towels, and the couple quickly wrapped Scrappy up before hurrying him to an emergency veterinary clinic.

At the hospital, the medical team acted fast. Scrappy had a severe head wound and appeared to be suffering from neurological damage.

Because he was an unclaimed stray, the couple had to make a difficult decision. They could either take full financial responsibility for his care or surrender him to the clinic so he could receive the necessary treatment.

Though they wanted to help him personally, the estimated cost of care, between $20,000 and $50,000, was impossible for them to afford. Reluctantly, they agreed to sign over his rights, ensuring that Scrappy would still get the medical attention he urgently needed.

To raise awareness and possibly find whoever was responsible, Tonn posted a video of Scrappy’s rescue on TikTok. The footage quickly spread online, gaining thousands of views.

Many people praised the couple for their bravery and kindness in saving the dog. Others expressed concern that surrendering him might lead to euthanasia because of his severe injuries.

Tonn, however, stood by her decision. She explained that her priority was Scrappy’s safety and that the clinic could give him the best chance of survival.

Although they no longer have official updates, Tonn and her fiancé continue to think about Scrappy every day. They remain hopeful that he is recovering and that once stable, he may be transferred to Animal Care Centers of NYC or the ASPCA .

They keep checking local shelter websites, wishing for a chance to bring Scrappy home as a foster or permanent companion.

Thanks to their compassion and quick action, Scrappy was given another chance at life. Hopefully, he will make a full recovery and find the loving home he deserves.
