Just watching our four-legged friends play, sleep, or simply be their goofy selves is beyond rewarding. But sometimes, they surprise us in the most unexpected ways.
Recently, one Minnesota owner experienced this firsthand when she checked her home security camera and found something extraordinary. Her beloved dog, three-year-old Kaylee, who had been paralyzed from the waist down, had a stunning surprise for her family.
Kaylee’s Hidden Nighttime Determination
Kaylee’s injury truly shattered her entire family. One day, the dog was running across the dog park like she always did, and the next, her back legs gave out.
The diagnosis was devastating: Kaylee’s spinal cord had suffered irreversible damage. Even after surgery, Kaylee became completely paralyzed from the waist down, and her only option to move around was with the help of a custom wheelchair.
But one night, when her owner checked the footage from her security camera, she saw something she could hardly believe: Kaylee was walking.
“She is permanently paralyzed and it’s complete. She has what’s called an uncoordinated gait because of involuntary reflexes,” Kaylee’s mom said on TikTok.
In the middle of the night, Kaylee was making small movements around the house. While aware of a so-called “spinal walking” in paralyzed dogs, her mom found it truly miraculous. Kaylee was a big dog, and this wasn’t a common phenomenon for her size.
“Her brain to back leg connection is completely severed and this means that she can do what’s called ‘spinal walking’ which is sort of miraculous, it doesn’t make sense that she’s able to control her movements as well as she can. Normally, it only happens for small dogs with low centres of gravity. So she is a very special case,” Kaylee’s owner added.
The Minnesota owner watched in awe as Kaylee moved her back legs. Aside from her physical therapy, Kaylee was apparently practicing walking alone, in the quiet hours when everyone was asleep.
Even though her movements were far from perfect, her determination soon moved thousands of Kaylee’s followers to tears.

Before long, Kaylee became a true internet sensation, and justifiably so.

One thing is for sure: Kaylee’s will to live life to the fullest is undeniable.
She still loves walkies, now with the help of her wheelchair, and spends her days playing, snuggling, and soaking up every ounce of love from her family. And her paralysis? She simply learned how to live with it.
“I don’t get sad about it anymore. I don’t regret that this happened. I have just accepted it cause she clearly is a very happy girl regardless,” Kaylee’s owner concluded.
Kaylee definitely doesn’t see herself as limited. She’s just as energetic and goofy as before, and loves everything about her life.
She still makes friends at the park, goes on adventures, and eagerly wakes up every morning to welcome a new day.
