When animal rescuer Caryn logged onto Facebook one ordinary day, she stumbled across a post that instantly broke her heart.
The message described a group of dogs who had been left behind, locked inside the yard of an abandoned home.
As a dedicated volunteer with the Humane Society of Mason County (HSMC), Caryn knew she couldn’t simply scroll past. When she realized that help wasn’t coming quickly enough, she made the decision to step in herself.
A Painful Scene Uncovered

The moment Caryn set foot on the property and saw the dogs’ condition, she was overwhelmed with emotion.
“[They] were found abandoned, living in squalid conditions,” the Humane Society of Mason County wrote in a video that documented the rescue.
The yard was a swamp of mud, littered with trash and dangerous debris. Six dogs were trapped there in total, among them two inseparable companions named Hank and Scooby.
When authorities finally arrived, Caryn was granted permission to arrange for the dogs’ removal. Thankfully, she had already secured safe places for each one.
One dog was taken in by People for Animal Care and Kindness, while the remaining five were placed under the care of HSMC.

Soon after, one of the rescued pups, Brutus, found comfort in a loving foster home.
The others, Scooby, Hank, Tucker, and Ringo, were welcomed by a kind foster mom named Donna, who was determined to help them heal.
Finding Strength Through Care And Patience
As the weeks turned into months, Tucker and Ringo were adopted into forever homes. Scooby and Hank, however, continued to wait.
The neglect they had endured had left deep emotional wounds, and both struggled with fear and timidity.
“Both boys were incredibly timid of new people, situations and loud noises. [B]ut they thrived around other dogs, who helped give them confidence,” an HSMC representative told The Dodo.

Even so, rescuers refused to give up. They believed that with time and patience, the right families would come along.
And eventually, that hope was fulfilled.
“After 182 days with HSMC, Scooby has finally found his forever family! He loves his canine brother, and his new people will give him all the time he needs to feel safe and comfortable in his new home,” the organization shared.

Now, only Hank is still searching for his perfect match. His progress has been extraordinary, and everyone at HSMC is confident his moment will arrive soon.
“Hank has made incredible progress in his foster home, gaining confidence every day. He is incredibly polite while playing with his older canine sister, who has severe arthritis, and he loves to race around the yard with his younger playmates,” the representative said.
From a frightened, withdrawn dog to a gentle and joyful companion, Hank’s transformation is living proof of what love and patience can accomplish.
The family who chooses him won’t just be adopting a pet. They’ll be welcoming a loyal, grateful friend for life.
Good luck, Hank. Your forever home is waiting, and it’s only a matter of time before you find it.
