It only takes one loving human to completely transform a dog’s life, and Poptart was lucky enough to get two of them!
This sweet American Bulldog-mix girl endured what can only be described as an extremely difficult life. She had spent her entire existence caged and was then cruelly dumped on the side of a rural highway in Virginia.
When Poptart finally reached a local animal shelter, she didn’t even know how to act like a dog. Her life took a remarkable turn when Caitrin and Aj stepped in to change her story forever.
Life Before Rescue
According to the shelter veterinarian, Poptart had spent her time at a breeding facility in a small, dark cage, sleeping on a filthy floor. When she arrived at Spotsylvania Animal Shelter, based in Fredericksburg, Virginia, she was underweight and unhealthy.
From her appearance, it was clear she had been repeatedly used for breeding and had likely endured an unprofessional c-section before being abandoned in a remote area.
“Poptart came to us as a stray in 2018, underweight, unhealthy and overused for breeding. The people who bred her most likely kept her in filthy conditions, performed an unprofessional home c-section and then discarded her on the side of the road,” the rescue wrote in a Facebook post.
Life in the shelter was difficult for Poptart, so the staff transferred her to a foster home. She finally entered a nurturing environment with a kind foster mom, Nathalie. Despite her trauma, Poptart slowly began to emerge from her shell and start learning what life was truly about.
A week later, the true miracle happened! Caitrin and Aj, her potential adopters, arrived, and soon became Poptart’s loving pawrents for life.
Adjusting To Her New Home
At first, Poptart didn’t understand living in a cozy home. She was cautious, her shoulders hunched, and her expression full of uncertainty. She wasn’t sure if she truly belonged inside, until Caitrin and Aj showered her with endless love.
Within a few weeks, Poptart transformed into a confident, happy dog and quickly became the queen of her new home.
She is a little athlete who enjoys running in the backyard with her doggo sibling, Doug. Indoors, her favorite activity is taking long, cozy naps.
Even though she hardly barks, Poptart entertains her family with funny noises while she sleeps.
“Even after a morning at the park, I don’t rest. I am ALWAYS on duty,” her owners wrote under the video.
Every mealtime is a performance: Poptart spins in circles and dances, showing her excitement for food. Caitrin and Aj adore watching her joyful personality shine in these moments.
This incredible couple is immensely grateful to have Poptart in their lives. From the moment she arrived, she’s been nothing but a sweet, love-seeking girl.
Even now, every day is filled with joy, and Poptart greets each one with the same enthusiasm she showed on her very first day in her new home.
Caitrin and Aj make sure she knows she is deeply loved, and her past life is long behind her.
“We tell her loudly and clearly that she is loved and her old life is never going back to what it was. We’ll make up for it every single day she’s on this planet, which hopefully is a really long time,” Caitrin told GeoBeats Animals.
Together with her pawrents and her sibling Doug, Poptart is creating joyful memories every day and she couldn’t be happier.
